Are You Aging Gracefully?.....Well, I'm NOT

Pay attention....there's something creeping up on you...watch out
Photobucket

Relax...this is no ghost story...it's worse..GROWING OLD!

I've discovered that my mind is still processing even when I'm playing FarmVille, Cafe World on Facebook or working on my little shop at OnlineAuction.com. My husband says my mind is like the hard drive in my computer...it needs de-fragged every so often!

I didn't pay much attention to the state of my body until the last few years...so many things are going wrong...isn't there a warranty on this pile of flesh?

Here's a few of my musings...
Skin flaps...what was our Creator thinking? what is the purpose of these flappy little pieces of skin showing up willy nilly...NO place is sacred to them.

Feet...they're a changin..mine used to be a petite 6...now they're spread out to an 8.

Mirror...peripheral vision offered me a glimpse of my mother the other day. Startled me...but when she spoke...I broke into a cold sweat when I discovered it was me!

Several years ago, I put on shorts at the beginning of the season and my dear sweet husband comes up with "When you gonna press them knees?". Well, that honest observation sent me into peels of laughter...just as well laugh as cry.

This process of becoming a truly Senior Citizen thing is a nasty vicious joke.....it's MEAN ...just plain mean.

I am so sorry I used to complain about having to shave my legs like every other day. and all that armpit hair...let it go and you could have braids in a few days. Crap, now I don't have to shave those places but maybe once every month or six. That's good news and my toes never have to be shorn.

BUT.....NOW, I've got hairs growing out of selected spots on my chin....I have one long begger that is partial to my left ear lobe. Five years ago I would never have thought I would have nose hairs showing or a moustache for crying out loud.

This is a favorite poem by Donna Vickodil...

Growing Old Gracefully

There's a mole on my neck that's growing a hair
When I was younger it wasn't there
A lot of things changed since I've grown older like my fallen arches and this hump on my shoulder
Yesterday I noticed a twitch in one eye and spots on my hand that resemble a fly
I used to be able to party all night but now to stay awake until five is a fight
My breasts used to be firm and quite pert
Now I have to be careful they don't drag in the dirt
Gravity surely has taken its toll
What was once on the surface is now in a hole
The backs of my arms are wobbly like jelly and I found the remote tucked under my belly
I used to eat steak but now I can't chew it
Growing old gracefully. I don't think I can do it !
Copyright: Donna Vickodil

Is there anybody out there that really thinks this is funny? Don't laugh too loud...it's gonna happen to you

The only saving grace is my heart, as long as it beats, I am still a fun and loving aging free spirit when I'm not wrought with worry

As long as my brain functions I'm happy...except those days when I can remember when I was 6 and somebody stepped on my mud pie but today I have to check my drivers license to catch my name....(sigh)

A positive to growing old...you can tell your deepest secrets to your friends... they won't remember them either.

There's so many things I could go on about...the eyes, driving, hormones, sex, gas, memory.....aargh! Time for a nap!  Yes, I'm growing old and there's no dad-gummed way I intend to go without a ruckus!

Do we need a Gratitude and a Spread Joy Reminder In Our Attitudes?

This is a reminder of something we can do daily to give us a positive attitude boost! If you've seen them...watch them again...definitely puts a smile on your face...

The Gratitude Dance

This video, produced by the "Gratidudes", infuses an upbeat Caribbean tune with choreography that vaguely resembles a chicken at a square dance. chicken Pictures, Images and Photos Although there have been no studies done on the subject, you should try dancing it with a frown on your face -- it's impossible.

All of this may feel frivolous as people lose their jobs and struggle financially, but one thing that has been proven is that negativity evokes more negativity. If you spend much time watching the news and wondering why the politicians we voted for are making noises that they know what is best for us, etc etc etc, then an attitude adjustment towards the positive is indeed in order. The theory behind Brightsiding is that we need to be energized in order to have the strength to pull ourselves up by our boot straps.

Breaking it down even more, to break the cycle of negativity, you need to compartmentalize: you do all you can to make your life, your family and your community better. But when you've done all you can, you need to think about something other than the sad scary stuff. You need to fortify yourself with laughter, positive thoughts and the joy of being with the people you love.

So, whether you lighten your mood by watching these videos or doing something fun with the people you love, remember that there is a bright side, and you can find it.
The Gratitude Dance by the Gratidudes needs to be seen and heard. It's amazing...try it!

BRIGHTSIDING....

There are some people who respond to the spirit-crushing and downright scary headlines with a cheerfulness that's almost inappropriate.

It's called "Brightsiding." It's based on the belief that, though you can't control the stock market or your job security, you can control your outlook on life. So why not stay positive?

The best online explanation of the Brightsiding concept comes from an original composition and animation called Spread Joy video The composer, Mike Strickland said the idea just came to him.

"I was watching TV news one day thinking, 'There needs to be more positive messages being sent around the world,'" he said. "So I wrote a cheerful song called 'Spread Joy.'" Watch it, take the concept to heart and we can all do our part to Spread Joy throughout the World!

and, so, as a Citizen who happens to be Senior (that means I'll be graduating soon...) I know that wrinkles around the eyes make you look happy. Of course, I cleverly disguise the tiny lines around my eyes with huge wrinkles! Why did I mention the thing about being a senior citizen?....now I feel compelled to ease the worry of you 'youngsters' and reassure you that as you age you will get chin hairs....but...not to worry cuz they give you something to stroke while looking thoughtful, mature and wise! Did that help?

Do your part to stimulate the economy by visitingOnline Auction Whether you're a Buyer or a Seller...it's the PLACE to be.

Just by way of reminder, a visit to Online Auction wouldn't be complete without visiting Supergrannys Treasures where you can find vintage retro collectibles. I have a whack of ashtrays in my store with 100's more that aren't listed yet so start your Christmas shopping early and give VINTAGE.

5 Riddles.....Brain Exercise.....Bargains for Shoppers

5 Riddles

This is a great brain exercise for anyone...Seniors, take a few minutes and really think on these.
These are the BEST FIVE RIDDLES I have seen.....THE ANSWERS ARE AT THE BOTTOM....Don't rush through these - Photobucket think about them. I was so irritated that I could only figure out one....ENJOY...

1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires. The second is full of assassins with loaded guns. The third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?

2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away?

4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?

5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

2. The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry (shot; held under water; and hung).

3. Charcoal, as it is used in barbecuing.

4. Sure you can name three consecutive days, yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

5. The letter e, which is the most common letter used in the English language, does not appear even once in the paragraph.

How did you do? They sure are easy when you know the answers.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD

A buyer from OnlineAuction.com
http://www.onlineauction.com/index.php has become a very dear friend to me through OLA. I'm sure many know what an asset she is to OLA....VHSQUEEN.....just sent me this really funny but true story of a fellow senior. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. She added some needed brevity to my day and I thank her!!!
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
WHEN YOU'RE OLD

George Phillips , an elderly man, from Meridian, Mississippi, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"

He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.

Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors Photobucket and an officer will be along when one is available."

George said, "Okay."

He hung up the phone and counted to 30.

Then he phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." and he hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars,Photobucket a SWAT Team, a Helicopter Photobucket, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance Photobucket showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

(True Story)

Happy New Year, Business and Personal Success!!

What Will 2009 Bring?

Business & Personal Success!! I'll go for that!!
Quit smoking, drinking alot LESS - done that!!

Selling product online - e-commerce - The latest places for shopping trendsetters to be seen are the online social shopping malls -- which could be venues like OnlineAuction.com, BuyItSellIt or places like Kaboodle, StyleHive, ThisNext, etc. that are social networking sites designed for friends & acquaintances to look for ways to unload some cash.

It's no fun shopping alone. That's the theory behind social shopping, a trend that combines social networking with e-commerce. It's a trend that's coming into its own as increasing numbers of online shoppers turn to the sites for fun, companionship, and camaraderie. a very social, interactive experience," Manish Chandra, the CEO and cofounder of social shopping site Kaboodle, told the E-Commerce Times. "Shopping is not just a transactional experience."

Social shopping sites attempt to create an online experience that replicates, to a degree, going to the mall with a group of friends. In the stereotypical mall experience, friends point out products to each other, comment on them, and share stories -- all the while bonding as much as they're actually shopping. Online social shopping sites aim to give shoppers a similarly interactive, personal and communal experience.

"It's like going shopping with a friend versus going alone," Chris Kensler, editorial director for social shopping site Stylehive, told the E-Commerce Times. "You get to bounce ideas off of each other and get new ideas. It's the kind of discovery that comes from shopping in a group that makes the site work."

Some social shopping sites, like ThisNext and StyleHive, focus on helping users make themselves into trend-setting "celebrities," complete with fans who follow their every move, including their purchasing decisions.

By the way, I enjoy ThisNext - spent some time there this morning and ended up with purchasing 5 ChicoBags which are large eco friendly shopping bags that fold up into it's own little pouch & will fit in your purse. I have several shopping bags but they are so cumbersome & I end up forgetting to take them with me when I shop.

I bought 5 for $20 - I felt that was a good bargain from Greenfeet.com.
I purchased because of the large size & eco friendly in order to STOP using plastic bags at the grocery & green grocer. I'm being over-run with plastic bags that eventually end up in the dump or landfill.
"Blog Comments....You don't want to go overboard in the linking and branding in blog comments, because the line between promotion and spam is very fine in a venue like this. People reading blog comments want to see insightful conversation" and points regarding the article or story "talked" about. "They don't want to see you advertising your business. The best way to get traffic from blog comments is to link your name to your site. This will give them the opportunity to see what your business is all about if they like what you have to say.

They are not going to click on your link if you just comment to say that you sell jewelry for example." from an article by Chris Crum, SmallBusinessNews.

Doesn't it seem like we are told different things by different people? I've been told to show pictures & links to what I am selling - lots of things. Now we have another viewpoint. What are we supposed to do?

I guess I'll just continue to practice my skills at
reading to see how much this addlepated old brain an retain!! Can't hurt - might help!!

Have you finished your New Years Resolutions yet? I'll let you know when I finish mine. Enjoy.....
