An Old Farmer's Words..Life from the seat of a tractor

Life from the seat of a tractor.. An old Farmer's Words of Wisdom we could all live by....... The last quote fits everyone...I don't care who you are.
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered....not yelled.

 Meanness don't just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about, ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Don't judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.

Timin' has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, Speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

 And, finally.........................................
Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come pull your ass out of the bind you have gotten yourself into....
so, with that said have a delicious day...

Bush vs Obama

Bush vs Obama

Let's get one thing straight right off...I was not a Bush proponent nor am I an Obama proponent.  I think for myself and when I received this...I thought on it for some time and have come to the conclusion that it makes sense....what do you think?

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 12 months -- so you'll have three years to come up with an answer.

They are just 2 more human beings in a powerful position....do we need government to control nearly every aspect of our lives?  We must think carefully and make informed decisions.  Don't believe everything you see, hear, or read....be responsible and make informed decisions.  If it's a politician telling you  they are doing 'stuff' for your benefit..beware!!!

Now for a brief commercial plug...I am making an effort to sell the remainder of my Collectible Advertising Tobacciana Ashtrays. I've sold alot, have a bunch listed for sale and have about 3 more boxes to get listed.

Collecting Tobacciana, or smoking paraphernalia, has been growing and while most items are still readily accessible at garage sales, second hand stores and flea markets, there are many long discontinued Smoking Collectibles that are hard to find. The most popular collectibles today in this category include the early Advertisments both on and off the products, Novelty items, Gambling and Casino, Gold and Sterling plated items, limited production items such as Commemorative and Political items, and certainly anything marked "Occupied Japan" which was manufactured only from 1945 to 1953.

Here are some examples:

Collectible Hotel Statler Matchstand Ashtray

Remember when every home and place of business had ashtrays of one kind or another sitting around?

With the demise of smoking, ashtrays and advertising tobacciana items are rarely being made any more and they will, one day soon, become a hot collectible. Add to or start your collection today.

EX-SMOKERS, HOLD ON TO YOUR SMOKING COLLECTIBLES
When you quit smoking, keep your tobacciana collectibles. Tobacco stands without the top parts are good plant stands. Cigarette cases are popular as small purses that will hold a credit card, driver's license and a little money.

Tobacco tins and boxes are interesting storage containers, and the box labels and cigar bands work well for decoupage projects. Best of all, ashtrays can be used to hold short stemmed flowers or kept in the bedroom to hold earrings and rings overnight.

If you see several you are interested in...send me an omail with your choices and I will do my best to give you a super bargain.

Remember buy vintage...these will never be made again....

Do we need a Gratitude and a Spread Joy Reminder In Our Attitudes?

This is a reminder of something we can do daily to give us a positive attitude boost! If you've seen them...watch them again...definitely puts a smile on your face...

The Gratitude Dance

This video, produced by the "Gratidudes", infuses an upbeat Caribbean tune with choreography that vaguely resembles a chicken at a square dance. chicken Pictures, Images and Photos Although there have been no studies done on the subject, you should try dancing it with a frown on your face -- it's impossible.

All of this may feel frivolous as people lose their jobs and struggle financially, but one thing that has been proven is that negativity evokes more negativity. If you spend much time watching the news and wondering why the politicians we voted for are making noises that they know what is best for us, etc etc etc, then an attitude adjustment towards the positive is indeed in order. The theory behind Brightsiding is that we need to be energized in order to have the strength to pull ourselves up by our boot straps.

Breaking it down even more, to break the cycle of negativity, you need to compartmentalize: you do all you can to make your life, your family and your community better. But when you've done all you can, you need to think about something other than the sad scary stuff. You need to fortify yourself with laughter, positive thoughts and the joy of being with the people you love.

So, whether you lighten your mood by watching these videos or doing something fun with the people you love, remember that there is a bright side, and you can find it.
The Gratitude Dance by the Gratidudes needs to be seen and heard. It's amazing...try it!

BRIGHTSIDING....

There are some people who respond to the spirit-crushing and downright scary headlines with a cheerfulness that's almost inappropriate.

It's called "Brightsiding." It's based on the belief that, though you can't control the stock market or your job security, you can control your outlook on life. So why not stay positive?

The best online explanation of the Brightsiding concept comes from an original composition and animation called Spread Joy video The composer, Mike Strickland said the idea just came to him.

"I was watching TV news one day thinking, 'There needs to be more positive messages being sent around the world,'" he said. "So I wrote a cheerful song called 'Spread Joy.'" Watch it, take the concept to heart and we can all do our part to Spread Joy throughout the World!

and, so, as a Citizen who happens to be Senior (that means I'll be graduating soon...) I know that wrinkles around the eyes make you look happy. Of course, I cleverly disguise the tiny lines around my eyes with huge wrinkles! Why did I mention the thing about being a senior citizen?....now I feel compelled to ease the worry of you 'youngsters' and reassure you that as you age you will get chin hairs....but...not to worry cuz they give you something to stroke while looking thoughtful, mature and wise! Did that help?

Do your part to stimulate the economy by visitingOnline Auction Whether you're a Buyer or a Seller...it's the PLACE to be.

Just by way of reminder, a visit to Online Auction wouldn't be complete without visiting Supergrannys Treasures where you can find vintage retro collectibles. I have a whack of ashtrays in my store with 100's more that aren't listed yet so start your Christmas shopping early and give VINTAGE.

Remember S&H Green Stamps that you got to lick and put in books way back when? This advertising ashtray is just the ticket for nostalgia lovers...an S&H Green Stamps Ashtray.

Senior Citizen Life Problems...Concerns...Sex

Let's face it....George Burns comment does carry some merit.....

I sure am somber today.....

Death is inevitable so I try to keep the "Energy Vampires" at bay by smiling and laughing more!

Happiness to me is good health and a bad memory!

My daddy used to always say "Life isn't fair...but it's good"!

This is an oldie but a goodie....Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

I LOVE martinis and my body is NOT well preserved and I'm certainly worn out.....so I've got part of it right already....

I hope as I get older I can hang on to that motto.....think I'll print it out and hang it where I will see it repeatedly.

As curiocache

says....Live, Love, Laugh!!

Now if I could get all my treasures to new homes.....check them out....There are lots of vintage bargains and a whole whack of collectible ashtrays...

Gifts - New Years Resolutions - Bargains

Gifts - New Years Resolutions - Bargains

We had our Christmas dinner Christmas Eve & opened our presents. Photobucket We laughed till we cried & had a festive time. We have to share our precious kids now that our 3 daughters have husbands and another family to celebrate with, we are glad to share their time. We are thankful we have this much time with them. They all have 4 legged "kids" - we have 6 grand dogs, 2 grand cats, 2 grand horses, 2 pretty birds, 1 rabbit, and a cute little furry thing that stays in a cage. Oh, we do have 3 grandsons who are FAR away in New Jersey with their parents, of course. So we rarely get to spend Christmas with them. They are gorgeous and the apples of our eye!

What to do with those "oddball" presents that you really don't want or need!!

Now be honest.......have you ever received a wrapped set of shampoo - conditioner from a hotel as a gift? or a purse shaped like a house? or used nose hair clippers? or body lotion that has been used with a very strong scent? I think everyone gets the oddball unwanted presents occasionally. How about you and your friends have a party after the new year, bring your most awful gift and swap them. What a great way to start the year with lots of mirth and turn a negative into a positive.
I received about the ugliest humongous shirt for a present this year (it was a joke gift). Let's see, how do I explain this beast..........looks like something that cousin Wilbur would wear proudly on the beach Photobucket Know what I'm going to do with it? It's going to get put in the Christmas box for next year and I will add something to embellish this shirt - like maybe some misplaced buttons or "tastefully" decorated paint splotches............. It will likely get regifted every year for years to come, giving everyone a good laugh!!
Has your husband ever gifted you with something HE wanted? with the reason being he can now fix, repair, etc something for you? Then I figure your next gift to him would be that new KitchenAid Mixer so that you can bake HIM something scrumptuous!! You know, this is a great concept!!
It's the thought that counts but what do you suppose they were thinking? Seriously it IS the thought that counts and receiving something shows that someone thought of you...........

2009 is rapidly approaching with all the hopes and dreams we all had at the beginning of 2008!!

I am trying to remember some of the things we wanted to accomplish last year.........I know one thing was to procrastinate less and to make lists so we wouldn't forget things. We've been seriously working on that - - - - -but it's come down to - give the list to my husband to put in his pocket - - - -then pin another note to his jacket or shirt front telling him to look at the list in his pocket. See? we're working on that problem.

You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

WOW, some strange voices must have been talking to me because I would never have believed a year ago that I would be glogging - excuse me - blogging!
Photobucket

What a world we live in - I remember sitting around & staring at the radio and our house had 2 paths - now its 2 baths.

Some of us "grown up" seniors spend part of our lives being a part of an Online Auction site - listing & selling. One of the up and comers is OnlineAuction.com http://www.onlineauction.com/index.php

The bargains you will find will give a new meaning to the word bargain but NOT just for the buyer - also for sellers. I'll get some friends to come over & give us the benefit of their musings - maybe they'll be having a good day......OR maybe they'll be having a bad day. One never knows, do one?

My OLA House can be seen at http://www.onlineauction.com/index.php?page=auction_house:main&user_id=22038
