An Old Farmer's Words..Life from the seat of a tractor

Life from the seat of a tractor.. An old Farmer's Words of Wisdom we could all live by....... The last quote fits everyone...I don't care who you are.
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered....not yelled.

 Meanness don't just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about, ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Don't judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.

Timin' has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, Speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

 And, finally.........................................
Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come pull your ass out of the bind you have gotten yourself into....
so, with that said have a delicious day...

How Unions Work - Las Vegas Hookers Unions

A dedicated Teamsters union worker was attending a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels.

When he got to the first one, he asked the Madam, "Is this a union house?"

"No”, she replied, "I'm sorry it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80 and the girls get $20,” she answered.

Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop.

His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded, "Why yes sir, this is a union house. We observe all union rules."

The man asked, "And, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the union man said. He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room, and pointed to a stunningly attractive green-eyed blonde.
"I'd like her," he said.

"I'm sure you would, sir," said the Madam. Then she gestured to a 92-year old woman in the corner, "but Ethel here has 67 years seniority and according to union rules, she's next.'"
NOW YOU KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE: AUTO INDUSTRY, EDUCATION, GOV'T UNIONS, AND THE SENIORITY SYSTEM IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE!

Senior Citizen....Brain Worries?

You are poorer and older than you were last year, and you may be fatter. Your memory is shot. You know deep down in your heart that you are becoming forgetful and what about all your bad habits? Wish you could just resolve to make them disappear? POOF!! All gone.................Not to worry the world is in even worse shape than you are.  That will be my next post.

Here's some good news to bolster you.......

The older brain is a wiser brain
According to new findings in neuroscience, your inability to remember names at cocktail parties or where you left your keys is not necessarily a symptom of early-onset dementia. Instead, it is a sign that your focus of attention has become broader. Getting distracted could be a good thing.

Did you ever think that getting distracted allows our creative juices to flow? "It may increase the amount of information available to the conscious mind," Shelley H. Carson, a Harvard psychology researcher, told The New York Times.

"A broad attention span may enable older adults to ultimately know more about a situation and the indirect message of what's going on than their younger peers," adds Dr. Lynn Hasher, at the University of Toronto. "We believe that this characteristic may play a significant role in why we think of older people as wiser." In other words, while younger brains are cluttered up with trivia, your brain is freed to work on a whole lot more important things.

Losing the ability to think, understand, & learn among people over 70 has been declining sharply in recent years. Brain scientists aren't sure why, but they think it's tied to the fact that older people are better educated, wealthier and more active than ever before. People who are better off are more likely to use it, not lose it. So remember: Like sex, mental challenges are very good for you, and you are never too old. Spending time Googling is good for you which makes me soooo happy.  I'm always researching something interesting.

We are also being flooded with remarkable new findings about brain plasticity. It seems that the brain - even the aging brain - is more malleable than we thought. It can even grow new nerve cells. One day, you'll probably be able to take a pill to help keep your neural pathways firing on all cylinders. Meantime, exercise, social connections, flexibility (can you touch your toes?) and eagerness to embrace new experiences are extremely effective cognitive medicine. Now THAT'S Good News!!!

Inquiring Minds Want To Know.....Cow Facts

1.A cow can climb up the stairs, but cannot climb down. This is because her knees cannot bend properly.

2. A cow produces around 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.

3. A cow stands up and sits down about 14 times a day.

4. A cow usually spends 6-7 hours in a day eating cud and around 8 hours on chewing it.

5. Almost all the cows chew at least 50 times per minute.

6. An average cow has more than 40,000 jaw movements in a day.

7.  A cow eats over 100 lbs. of food and drinks 30 to 40 gallons of water each day.   Now this leads to  urinating about 30 lbs of water and pooping about 60 lbs of feces each day.

8. Cows do not bite grass; rather they curl their tongue around it.

9. Cows have almost total 360-degree panoramic vision.

10. Cows have an acute sense of smell and can smell something up to 6 miles away.  (I've known some people you could smell that far away

After putting these together..I got curious and decided I had to do some further research.  The first cows were introduced in the new land by Christopher Columbus on his 2nd trip here in 1611 and again in 1615.  It has been said that one reason for the high death rate among those who traveled to the New World on the Mayflower was that they had no fresh milk to drink. Cows were brought from Europe to the Jamestown colony in 1611 and to the Plymouth colony in 1624.  Now, those ships were, by todays standards, very small.  Did they just bring one cow? or how many?  That would mean a WHOLE WHACK of food and fresh water.....which would then mean a WHOLE PILE  of  the resulting 'by-product' after each cow ate and drank all day (phew).  Where did they store all that food and fresh water and what or who disposed of all that so-called 'by-product'?

Inquiring minds want to know............I could go on or if you're interested in any other  factoids, just let me know:)

Immigration Is An Age Old Problem

I just came across this short piece by Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Makes perfect sense to me!

2010 New Anthem...We The People Say Pay Attention...

I think this new song from Ray Stevens would make a heckofan anthem for the next few years. Take the time to see and listen to it from the following Ray Stevens link.

If you've heard it once...listen to it again...the words are soooo appropo...I hope they're listening.  We the People are a force to be reckoned with..

Check out his website....Ray Stevens

Here's a few of the lyrics...this 70 year old songwriter entertainer has managed to hit the nail on the head:

It’s gonna be a big heart breaker,
Grandma needs a new pace maker,

And the doctor says, “I realize she’s ill,

But there’s talk of legislation, on all our medication,

and maybe all we can do is put her on a pain pill.”

Whoa, me! Hey, Congress!

You vote Obamacare,

We’re gonna vote you outta there!
We the People have awakened to your tricks.

You vote to let this pass,

You Will be out on your.....!

‘Cause we the people have awakened…

I would say this song makes Ray Stevens a genuine patriot!

How are you? Do You Really Want To Know?

I went to the market this morning and the clerk said 'How are you?'

I proceeded to tell her.....'I have a bunion on my right foot that is killing me....notice how I drag my left leg...that's why I carry this dam cane....I had chili last night and it is still causing me killer gas, I'm walking so slow these days I can't outrun the odor any more...excuse me...got any room spray back there?... not to mention it keeps repeating on me. My knees play tricks on me, my blood pressure is high...my diabetes has advanced and is destroying the nerves in my feet. I think I'm getting dementia...what the heck am I here for? Oh, yeah, my eyes are seeing less...my glasses are getting thicker. You know, I have this one wayward hair growing out of my left earlobe that I can't see to pluck...wait a minute, I think I have some tweezers in my bag, let me look....would you mind yanking it out for me?

Did you ask me a question?....

That is a serious pet peeve of mine...don't ask how I am because you don't know me and you don't give a tinkers dam how I am... Try going into a detailed explanation next time someone asks you that question...the look on their face is priceless!

Is That A Dead Mule I Smell?...Bailout Program

mule Pictures, Images and Photos Curtis and Leroy saw an ad in the Starkville Daily News Newspaper in Starkville, MS. and bought a mule for $100.

The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day.

The next morning the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, fellows, I have some bad news, the mule died last night."

Curtis and Leroy replied, "Well, then just give us our money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

They said, "OK then, just bring us the dead mule."

The farmer asked, "What in the world ya'll gonna do with a dead mule?"

Curtis said, "We gonna raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead mule!"

Leroy said, "We shore can! Heck, we don't hafta tell nobody he's dead!"

A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Curtis and Leroy at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and asked.

"What'd you fellers ever do with that dead mule?"
They said,"We raffled him off like we said we wuz gonna do."

Leroy said,"Shucks, we sold 500 tickets fer two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898."

The farmer said,"My Lord, didn't anyone complain?"

Curtis said, "Well, the feller who won got upset. So we gave him his two dollars back."

Curtis and Leroy now work for the government.

They're overseeing the Bailout Program.
