Zen Teachings

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me for the path is narrow. In fact, just piss off and leave me alone.

2. Sex is like air. It's not that important unless you aren't getting any.

3. No one is listening until you fart. Whoopie cushion farting smiley Pictures, Images and Photos

4. Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.

5. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

6. If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

7. Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

8. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. smiley skydiving Pictures, Images and Photos

9. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. gone fishing Pictures, Images and Photos

10. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.

11. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

12. Some days you are the bug; some days you are the windshield.

13. Don't worry; it only seems kinky the first time.

14. Good judgment comes from bad experience ... and most of that comes from bad judgment.

15. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

16. There are two excellent theories for arguing with women. Neither one works.

17. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

18. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

19. We are born naked, wet and hungry, and get slapped on our ass ... then things just keep getting worse.

20. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Work at Staying Fit...Easily...Senior Citizens...Pay Attention

I woke up this morning (well...... that's a positive) feeling a bit off....maybe I'm grumpy and should go hide from the world Photobucket..................or could it be that as a Senior Citizen I'm stressing about life or the shape of my aging body.
I remember an article I read in (wish I could remember) maybe Good Housekeeping that gave some good ideas and stats on easy ways to help with the battle of the bulge .....

Say "Om"
Photobucket
De-stressing can be a powerful way to whittle down. A recent study from Oregon Health & Science University found that overweight women who performed daily relaxation techniques, such as meditation, yoga, or even writing in a diary for 20 minutes, lost an average of 10 pounds after 18 months — without consciously dieting.

Stay-Skinny Pasta Photobucket
How to indulge without gaining: Cook the pasta al dente, so it's firm to the bite. Why? The longer you boil noodles, the more the starch breaks down, which raises the pasta's glycemic index. This causes your blood sugar level to rise faster — and may increase your junk food cravings too. Studies show that when you cook spaghetti for five minutes, its glycemic index is 38; after 20 minutes, it shoots up to 61. But even al dente cooking doesn't mean you can eat piles of fettuccine Alfredo every night. And high-cal pasta sauces are still off-limits.

30-Second Exercise Trick Photobucket (I hate when this happens)
Now you can work out less — and get fitter. A recent study from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, showed that about a half-hour of sprint cycling (alternating speeds by pedaling quickly for 30 seconds and then at a slow pace for four minutes) is as effective as an hour and a half of moderate pedaling. The key is the series of 30-second power bursts. Another idea for a non-type-exercise when you're taking a "sit-down" is...sit with your back against the chair and pull in your belly button back to your spine and hold for 30 seconds. Do as many as you're able. OK, just pull it in as far back as you can.

Snooze to Lose Photobucket
Add one hour of sleep to your schedule, and you could drop up to 14 pounds this year. New data from the University of Michigan shows that you'll likely eat 6 percent less if you replace 60 minutes of awake time (when you may snack) with an hour of shut-eye. And a Harvard study that tracked around 68,000 women found that those who clocked only five or fewer hours of rest a night had a 32 percent greater chance of gaining more than 30 pounds over a 16-year period than those who got seven hours of sleep.

Best Diet Breakfast breakfast Pictures, Images and Photos
Say good-bye to bagels. Start your morning with eggs, and you’ll curb cravings for the rest of the day. (It's true - this works, start your day with protein) Researchers from Wayne State University studied 30 overweight women, feeding them a breakfast with eggs, toast, and jelly one day, and, two weeks later, a bagel with cream cheese and yogurt (both meals had similar calorie counts). When the women had the protein-packed eggs instead of the bagel breakfast, they ate 164 fewer calories at lunch and around 400 fewer calories over a 24-hour period. Cut that many calories a day, and it could add up to a 41-pound loss in a year.

I just remembered a favorite breakfast from years ago - We call it
Sunday Morning Breakfast ....here's the recipe...
For an individual
Mix 2 eggs
1/4 to 1/3 C flour
1/2 C milk
Dashes of cinnamon

Pour into individual baking dish that has been
preheated in the oven with a couple of teaspoons of butter till it melts.

Bake at 425 for 15 - 20 min

It puffs WAY UP (will deflate when taken out) Serve with a bit of sugar free or fruit only preserves. You now have had 2 eggs, equivalent of a piece of toast and your dairy!! If you really want to live it up and splurge - sprinkle with powdered sugar. Try it...easy, nutritious, and delicious.........

Laugh Off 40 Calories Photobucket
It's no joke! A study from Vanderbilt University showed that you can burn up to that many calories by laughing genuinely for 10 to 15 minutes. (Watch Groundhog Day to giggle off even more weight.) Not only does it burn calories but hugely improves your state of mind!!!

Do Your Body Good
Dancing Milk Pictures, Images and Photos
Try to have at least three servings of low-fat dairy daily. A study from the University of Tennessee showed that dieters on a six-month program who followed a high-dairy meal plan lost nearly twice as much weight (around 24 pounds) as their nondairy-eating peers, and they shed more abdominal fat too. The researchers suspect that dairy activates fat-burning mechanisms.

Skinny Little Pill Red Pill Pictures, Images and Photos
Popping a fish oil capsule can help you shed pounds. Researchers from the University of South Australia tracked 81 overweight people for three months and found that those who took a daily dose of fish oil and walked for 45 minutes three times a week lost an average of 4.4 pounds — without changing their diet. The pill-exercise combo is key: Those who worked out regularly but skipped the supplement stayed at the same weight; so did those who took the pill but didn’t walk. Bonus: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil helped improve the participants’ heart health.
Well, after all that good advice, I guess I'll stay up and start by saying OM and meditatingPhotobucket then I'll plan dinner around some really "chewy" pasta................I think I will dig out my bike from the stuffed garage and take off the dry rotted tires and get new ones. We like to ride bikes........ not a good time for a nap - I'll do that later...make us a SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST, take my pills with a glass of milk, all the while laughing!! If you find you have some EXTRA time, don't forget to keep exercising your brain..read, twitter somebody, do a crossword, try to figure out html.....

Corporations Scrambling to Economize and Streamline.....Collecting Tobacciana Ashtrays

Corporations Scrambling to Economize and Streamline

If you've ever worked for a boss that reacts before getting the facts and thinking things through, you will love this!

Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business.

He walked up to the guy leaning against the wall and asked, 'How much money do you make a week?'

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and replied, 'I make $400 a week. Why?'

The CEO then handed the guy $1,600 in cash and screamed, 'Here's four weeks' pay, now GET OUT and don't come back.'

Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, 'Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here? '
From across the room came a voice, 'Pizza delivery guy from Domino's.'

Now that's what I call a GENEROUS TIP!! Photobucket

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE...........
I have been working "overtime" listing a whole whack of ashtrays that I have been collecting for years. A lot of them bring back memories....others just tell a little story about where they came from.

Actually, the term for a receptacle to dispose of your ash and butts ....... "ashtray" was conjured up in Great Britain about 1880. Smoking tobacco has been used since the 1500's. As the different eras were born, so were different ashtray designs. Materials used to make them ranged from the precious gold, silver, marble, etc to cheap metals, ceramics, porcelain, glass.

As smoking increased in popularity, businesses got the idea to advertise their business or product on ashtrays. After all, ashtrays were everywhere. Advertising ashtrays were born and folks started "borrowing" them as mementos of stays in hotels, motels, vacations, etc. Pretty soon every business had them on tables, in lobbys, kitchen tables, gas stations, mom and pop diners to the most luxurious of places.

Vintage ashtrays that are high on collectors' wish lists include those from early- and mid-20th century luxury hotels and popular nightspots, like New York's Stork Club; automobilia (especially tire companies); defunct casinos; and planes, trains, and ocean liners. For example, a Pullman Company smoking stand (free-standing ashtray) recently sold online for $710, while a MetalCraft airplane smoking stand went for $995!

Here is a list of the Casinos in Las Vegas that are no more......

Silver City Casino

Westward Ho Hotel & Casino

I am sure there are more that I do not know about, but this is a start. If you come across an ashtray from a little unknown Casino from some obscure place, snap it up.

You can learn lots of trivia researching ashtrays. I have one listed at Onlineauction.com from the oldest hotel casino in Las Vegas. Opened in 1906 and in 1907 was the first telephone customer and their phone number was 1..... Photobucket
Here's the link...CLICK HERE to View My Item

Today, we all know smoking has become a generally unacceptable habit and health risk. There are very few places where one can light up. "No Smoking" signs are everywhere and even some new cars no longer have Lighters and Ashtrays as interior equipment.

It only makes sense that since advertising dollars are no longer spent on ashtrays, the value of these items from earlier eras are becoming more valuable and one day will be highly sought after.

I have to stop buying them and clear out boxes of them...so if you want to start collecting or add to an existing collection, here's an opportunity to find some deals. Start with buying one a week and grow it from there....

Senior living just keeps going on......things keep changing....usually the things I don't want to change....

Here's what's NEW as of today....I am cleaning out my jewelry box - gave the girls whatever they wanted and I'm selling the rest. 10 and 14 KT gold necklaces and bracelets, fine costume jewelry, and more.

Why am I doing this - well, it's all been in boxes for more than 2 years and I haven't missed it and I haven't even found the rest of it yet. My husband summed it up the other evening and I just about lost my teeth (yes, they can go flying). He said "we don't need much since we are living the Ma and Pa Kettle Lifestyle!" After I got up from rolling around on the floor, I thought, he's right I don't wear it so why do I want to store it. Besides, I will eventually need the extra money for those adult diapers and liquid food.... Well, there your are, senior common sense!!

I'm giving you all a heads up here is some pictures of the items I've just listed and where you can find them....

Chuckle...Valentines Day...Shop

CHUCKLE OF THE DAY..............

You are on the bus when you suddenly realize ... you need to fart. The music is really loud, so you time your farts with the beat. After a couple of songs, you start to feel better as you approach your stop. As you are leaving the bus, people are really staring you down, and that's when you remember: you've been listening to your ipod!!!
Photobucket
Embarrassing? It is not mentioned often in polite circles. It is often used to provoke a laugh in certain movies. It is a subject not often mentioned by patient to doctor. It is flatulence. We all experience it as part of normal living, but it can become a problem for many people. Flatulence occurs in most healthy people 10 to 20 times a day and is simply the release of intestinal gas.

Does Anybody Out There Twitter?

Oh, Lordy, I am WAY OVER 40......WHY did I just sign up for Twitter? I thought twitter was when you got nervous and excitable and was said to be "all - a - twitter".

After I signed up I asked if it was just for use with cell phones. I have a cell phone but it is one of those inexpensive tracfones. I certainly don't want a bunch of folks sending me text messages - man, that could get expensive and use up my minutes that I am saving in case I need to call 911 for an ambulance. As a senior citizen, I think about things like that.

So, you can see now why I'm "all-a-twitter" about Twitter! The little blank square is where you're supposed to type in "what are you doing now"............you mean, right now? Well, if I'm typing in that little white space then...THAT's what I'm doing......... or do they mean what WAS I doing (putting my teeth in, multi-tasking - reading a book while resting on the throne) or what I am going to be doing when I finish typing in this little white space (taking pills with a glass of milk, musing about whats for brunch and dinner, listing some new treasures on OnlineAuction.com or BISI) So many things I could type. Does anybody REALLY WANT to read about my day that is full of senior moments?

Do you really think some tech savvy person is going to be impressed with my musings?

Oh, senior moments........now there's a current topic........

"WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!" The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded, wanting to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY".

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter, "Well, shit... so that's why no one was at church today".

SeewhatImean?

Now, what was I talking about....................I forgot..so...forget it.

These are some neat things I added this week to my stores. Please check my stores out - I know you will find a bargain........

Seniors - Good News!! & a Hearty Laugh

A Shiny New Year 2009?

It ain't all bad!!! Stop thinking doom and gloom. Oh, I know it's hard, especially this time of year. The weather's bleak. Flooding in January? You are poorer and older than you were last year, and you may be fatter. OK, let's don't get negative............

Your memory is shot. Worried your new year's resolutions will go down the river? You know deep down in your heart that you are becoming forgetful and what about all your bad habits? Wish you could just resolve to make them disappear? POOF!! All gone............I said, don't go negative......the world is in even worse shape than you are.

Here's some good news to bolster you.......

The older brain is a wiser brain
According to new findings in neuroscience, your inability to remember names at cocktail parties or where you left your keys is not necessarily a symptom of early-onset dementia. Instead, it is a sign that your focus of attention has become broader. Getting distracted could be a good thing.

Did you ever think that getting distracted allows our creative juices to flow? "It may increase the amount of information available to the conscious mind," Shelley H. Carson, a Harvard psychology researcher, told The New York Times.

"A broad attention span may enable older adults to ultimately know more about a situation and the indirect message of what's going on than their younger peers," adds Dr. Lynn Hasher, at the University of Toronto. "We believe that this characteristic may play a significant role in why we think of older people as wiser." In other words, while younger brains are cluttered up with trivia, your brain is freed to work on a whole lot more important things.

Be excited - the windmills of your mind just may not splinter!!!

Losing the ability to think, understand, & learn among people over 70 has been declining sharply in recent years. Brain scientists aren't sure why, but they think it's tied to the fact that older people are better educated, wealthier and more active than ever before. People who are better off are more likely to use it, not lose it. So remember: Like sex, mental challenges are very good for you, and you are never too old. Spending time Googling is good for you.

We are also being flooded with remarkable new findings about brain plasticity. It seems that the brain - even the aging brain - is more malleable than we thought. It can even grow new nerve cells. One day, you'll probably be able to take a pill to help keep your neural pathways firing on all cylinders. Meantime, exercise, social connections, flexibility (can you touch your toes?) and eagerness to embrace new experiences are extremely effective cognitive medicine. Now THAT'S Good News!!!

This is a new twist on the Red Riding Hood & the Big Bad Wolf story..............

PhotobucketLittle Red Riding Hood is skipping thru the forest road when she sees the big bad wolf crouched down behind a log.
'My, what big eyes you have, Mr. Wolf.'
The wolf jumps up and runs away. Photobucket
Further down the road, Little Red Riding Hood sees the wolf again. This time he is crouched behind a bush.
'My what big ears you have, Mr. Wolf.'
Again the wolf jumps up and runs away.
About 1/4 mile down the road Little Red Riding Hood sees the wolf again and this time he is crouched down behind a rock.
'My what big teeth you have Mr. Wolf.'
With that the wolf jumps up and screams, 'Will you knock it off, I'm trying to poop!' Photobucket

Happy New Year, Business and Personal Success!!

What Will 2009 Bring?

Business & Personal Success!! I'll go for that!!
Quit smoking, drinking alot LESS - done that!!

Selling product online - e-commerce - The latest places for shopping trendsetters to be seen are the online social shopping malls -- which could be venues like OnlineAuction.com, BuyItSellIt or places like Kaboodle, StyleHive, ThisNext, etc. that are social networking sites designed for friends & acquaintances to look for ways to unload some cash.

It's no fun shopping alone. That's the theory behind social shopping, a trend that combines social networking with e-commerce. It's a trend that's coming into its own as increasing numbers of online shoppers turn to the sites for fun, companionship, and camaraderie. a very social, interactive experience," Manish Chandra, the CEO and cofounder of social shopping site Kaboodle, told the E-Commerce Times. "Shopping is not just a transactional experience."

Social shopping sites attempt to create an online experience that replicates, to a degree, going to the mall with a group of friends. In the stereotypical mall experience, friends point out products to each other, comment on them, and share stories -- all the while bonding as much as they're actually shopping. Online social shopping sites aim to give shoppers a similarly interactive, personal and communal experience.

"It's like going shopping with a friend versus going alone," Chris Kensler, editorial director for social shopping site Stylehive, told the E-Commerce Times. "You get to bounce ideas off of each other and get new ideas. It's the kind of discovery that comes from shopping in a group that makes the site work."

Some social shopping sites, like ThisNext and StyleHive, focus on helping users make themselves into trend-setting "celebrities," complete with fans who follow their every move, including their purchasing decisions.

By the way, I enjoy ThisNext - spent some time there this morning and ended up with purchasing 5 ChicoBags which are large eco friendly shopping bags that fold up into it's own little pouch & will fit in your purse. I have several shopping bags but they are so cumbersome & I end up forgetting to take them with me when I shop.

I bought 5 for $20 - I felt that was a good bargain from Greenfeet.com.
I purchased because of the large size & eco friendly in order to STOP using plastic bags at the grocery & green grocer. I'm being over-run with plastic bags that eventually end up in the dump or landfill.
"Blog Comments....You don't want to go overboard in the linking and branding in blog comments, because the line between promotion and spam is very fine in a venue like this. People reading blog comments want to see insightful conversation" and points regarding the article or story "talked" about. "They don't want to see you advertising your business. The best way to get traffic from blog comments is to link your name to your site. This will give them the opportunity to see what your business is all about if they like what you have to say.

They are not going to click on your link if you just comment to say that you sell jewelry for example." from an article by Chris Crum, SmallBusinessNews.

Doesn't it seem like we are told different things by different people? I've been told to show pictures & links to what I am selling - lots of things. Now we have another viewpoint. What are we supposed to do?

I guess I'll just continue to practice my skills at
reading to see how much this addlepated old brain an retain!! Can't hurt - might help!!

Have you finished your New Years Resolutions yet? I'll let you know when I finish mine. Enjoy.....

Gifts - New Years Resolutions - Bargains

Gifts - New Years Resolutions - Bargains

We had our Christmas dinner Christmas Eve & opened our presents. Photobucket We laughed till we cried & had a festive time. We have to share our precious kids now that our 3 daughters have husbands and another family to celebrate with, we are glad to share their time. We are thankful we have this much time with them. They all have 4 legged "kids" - we have 6 grand dogs, 2 grand cats, 2 grand horses, 2 pretty birds, 1 rabbit, and a cute little furry thing that stays in a cage. Oh, we do have 3 grandsons who are FAR away in New Jersey with their parents, of course. So we rarely get to spend Christmas with them. They are gorgeous and the apples of our eye!

What to do with those "oddball" presents that you really don't want or need!!

Now be honest.......have you ever received a wrapped set of shampoo - conditioner from a hotel as a gift? or a purse shaped like a house? or used nose hair clippers? or body lotion that has been used with a very strong scent? I think everyone gets the oddball unwanted presents occasionally. How about you and your friends have a party after the new year, bring your most awful gift and swap them. What a great way to start the year with lots of mirth and turn a negative into a positive.
I received about the ugliest humongous shirt for a present this year (it was a joke gift). Let's see, how do I explain this beast..........looks like something that cousin Wilbur would wear proudly on the beach Photobucket Know what I'm going to do with it? It's going to get put in the Christmas box for next year and I will add something to embellish this shirt - like maybe some misplaced buttons or "tastefully" decorated paint splotches............. It will likely get regifted every year for years to come, giving everyone a good laugh!!
Has your husband ever gifted you with something HE wanted? with the reason being he can now fix, repair, etc something for you? Then I figure your next gift to him would be that new KitchenAid Mixer so that you can bake HIM something scrumptuous!! You know, this is a great concept!!
It's the thought that counts but what do you suppose they were thinking? Seriously it IS the thought that counts and receiving something shows that someone thought of you...........

2009 is rapidly approaching with all the hopes and dreams we all had at the beginning of 2008!!

I am trying to remember some of the things we wanted to accomplish last year.........I know one thing was to procrastinate less and to make lists so we wouldn't forget things. We've been seriously working on that - - - - -but it's come down to - give the list to my husband to put in his pocket - - - -then pin another note to his jacket or shirt front telling him to look at the list in his pocket. See? we're working on that problem.

The day is arriving - get organized

OK, let's make an effort to get organized!! Company will arrive in exactly 51 hours. What has to be done before then - - - -

Have kitties nails clipped. Have our hair clipped. Thaw the turkey. Take husband to the Opthamologist (what a dumb time to make a Dr's appt). Start preparing food. Change sheets on beds. Clean house. Wrap Christmas presents. Do I have enough serving bowls? What is going to go in which dish? Choose table decorations. Do I have enough scotch tape to wrap presents? Better run to the store - what else do I need? WOW, I'd better get the crushed pineapple draining - that always takes time.

What did I do with that used nose hair clippers I was going to wrap as a gag gift for Wilbur? Is it 5 o'clock yet? Could sure use just a titch of wine!!

I know I am going to forget something - maybe I should make a list.....now where is my list pad.....maybe on my desk?....oh, this is a mess - I'd better clean this off. shuffle shuffle, stick stuff in drawers. There, that looks better - now what was I looking for? I should make a list - oh, that's what I was looking for - my list pad!!

Gotta check email and o-mail (my mail at OnlineAuction.com in case somebody needs something or wants to tell me something).

It's not New Years yet but I've got to remember to make a resolution to not wait until the last minute to get all this done before Christmas eve eve eve day next year....and put my list pad on the refrigerator so I can write stuff on it before I forget.

I'm going to just sit down for a bit, have a fresh cup of coffee and relax before I start to seriously think about getting organized!

I guess I should clean house...................

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays everyone!!

Happy Holidays ~ Merry Christmas ~ Happy New Year

Happy Holidays ~ Merry Christmas ~ Happy New Year

I just received this from a very dear friend - it is a lovely read! I wish I knew the author so kudos could be offered to him. Even if you've read it before - take a moment and read it again...........

Subject: I BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS
I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was just
a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her. On the
way, my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she
jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her
that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I
told her everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus?" she snorted .... "Ridiculous! Don't believe it! That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let's go." "Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second world-famous cinnamon bun.

"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in
town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked
through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my
mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for. I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church. I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker.

He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right
behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he didn't have a good coat.

I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that.

"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. "Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby."

The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really
needed a good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell
out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I
crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going." I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma.

Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Deckers bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team. I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: $19.95.

May you always have LOVE to share, HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS that care...And may you always believe in the magic of Santa Claus!
