We worked hard and played hard. We played 'Snowbirds' for 7 years. Bought a small bungalow in a nice very small town in rural Colorado. Now we spend our time playing internet, reading with our feet up. Take a few moments and read my bloviating about growing old, politics, or whatever pops into my gray matter...leave your thoughts..

Be Unique...Think Outside The Box...
Here is a post by Seth Waite of ProBlogger..Stop being a blogging Zombie that by giving examples makes the point of being innovative and the importance of thinking outside the box. Notice the number of backlinks he has used.
I try to write like I talk...so, OK, it's sometimes disjointed...pausing (gotta keep my thoughts in order). I love to read and most enjoy a conversational style. Instead of ... 'See Jane run' (in monotone style) how about..."How in the world does Jane do that power walking thing in those skyscraper platform shoes?...look at her go...'. I'm just saying, that's what I enjoy reading.
Outside The Box IS Where It's At...anyway, Stop being a blogging Zombie is worth the read.
How about some more backlinks...another blogger I enjoy because his style of writing is conversational and since he is Tim Brownson, a Real Life Coach from the UK. has good insight.
The current one is Coping With Conflict and Criticism . It is a bit long but informative and the comments are also good. I came away with some new insights...
Well, methinks I need a Life Coach...I'm still fighting off the boxes in my storage of things that want to get listed at my store...Supergrannys Treasures. There's only 137 days till Christmas, WHY am I dragging my feet? StubsInc is already listing new Christmas items as are a bunch of other sellers.
Fleapirates sent me this quip that I've been digesting for a couple of days now..."I would be unstoppable...if I could just get started". What's my problem?...that's my $64,000 question today.
Anywhooo, check out all the sellers at Online Auction

Remember Independance...Ben Franklin
After listening, I became curious about our forefathers so I found USHistory.org Declaration of Independance Signers.
Interesting that the youngest was a mere 26 with the oldest 70.
There are very brief biographies of each...some were not formally educated others were extremely privileged...they all shared a passion for this country.
I'm copying the one of Benjamin Franklin..I'd forgotten what an interesting outstanding man he became from very humble beginnings..I think you will enjoy refreshing your memory.

Died: April 17, 1790
Benjamin Franklin, born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 17, 1706, may by his life alone be the most profound statement of what an American strives to be.
With no formal education beyond the age of 10 years, Franklin was celebrated throughout Europe, welcomed in any Royal Court, sought out by every prestigious society. Indeed, when the reputations of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had yet to be sorted out, Franklin was worshipped wherever his name was known.
He attended grammar school at age eight, but was put to work at ten. He apprenticed as a printer to his brother James, who printed the New England Courant, at age twelve, and published his first article there, anonymously, in 1721. Young Benjamin was an avid reader, inquisitive and skeptical. Through his satirical articles, he poked fun at the people of Boston and soon wore out his welcome, both with his brother and with the city.
He ran away to New York and then on to Philadelphia at the age of 16, looking for work as a printer. He managed a commission to Europe for the purpose of buying supplies to establish a new printing house in Philadelphia, but found himself abandoned when he stepped off ship.
Through hard work and frugality he bought his fare back to Philadelphia in 1732 and set up shop as a printer. He was appointed clerk of the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1736, and as Postmaster the following year. In 1741 he began publishing Poor Richard's Almanac, a very popular and influential magazine. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1751 and served as an agent for Pennsylvania (and ultimately for three other colonies) to England, France, and several other European powers. He was elected to the Continental Congress in 1775, where he played a crucial role in the rebellion against Gr. Britain, including service to Jefferson in editing the Declaration of Independence.
Franklin, who was by this time independently wealthy and retired from publishing, continued to serve an important role in government both local and national. He was the United States first Postmaster General, Minister to the French Court, Treaty agent and signer to the peace with Gr. Britain, Celebrated Member of the Constitutional convention (See Work, above). Benjamin Franklin: Businessman, Writer, Publisher, Scientist, Diplomat, Legislator, and Social activist, was one of the earliest and strongest advocates for the abolition of Slavery, and for the protection of the rights of American aboriginal peoples. He died on the 17th of April in 1790. On that day he was still one of the most celebrated characters in America. So should he always be.
Remember Poor Richards Almanack? First published by Benjamin Franklin in 1732, Poor Richard's Almanack was a guide to both weather forecasts and wise maxims. Franklin used the pseudonym Richard Saunders in writing the text, which soon became an annual publication up until 1757. Response to the almanac was tremendous, and it sold as many as 10,000 issues a year.
Franklin wrote Poor Richard's Almanack as a service to the American people, hoping to educate them and entice their intellectual appetities. Since it was extremely common for the almanac to be the only publication a person ever purchased, the author felt indebted to write as much as he possibly could.
As Richard Saunders, Franklin was given both the freedom to express his thoughts and the freedom to do so with dramatic license. Consequently, he continued to emphasize the two qualities he found most essential to success: industry and frugality.
We need to cherish and protect all the freedoms that we have been given.

Senior Sex Advice...Can't Hurt..Might Help...Dating in the 50's
The Archives of Internal Medicine tells us that drinking a cup of Joe translates into "a higher rate of sexual activity in elderly women and a decreased prevalence of impotency among elderly men." No one knows why. I adore coffee and read just today that some speculate that the brew promotes more liberal behavior. Well, can't hurt...who knows might help?
Shoot, why not have a romantic cup 'o brew tonight before going to bed with your precious...might keep you awake a bit longer. It may be just what you need to get a leg up (so to speak) on the 'situation'. Remember, though, if you encounter an erection lasting four hours or more, contact your Dr, don't blame me.
Oh, did I tell you? According to a recent scientific survey, the less sex you have, the worse your memory becomes.
What?
and then......
I was MUSING the other day about the 'good ole days' of the 50's...the morals, problems of the young people of that day....here's a memory from my sheltered life...
Do you recognize this instrument of torture?
Gals, did you have a mother that would insist on you wearing your best rubber band type girdle (hot, sticky, objects of torture with garters that become imbedded into your thighs) when you went out on a date or to a social event?
Well, mine did and I just thought she wanted me to look nice and have good posture! I just wore one without a word. I was such a good girl!!
Now I know better....
Can anybody else remember those 'good ole days'? Got any stories?
Enough reminiscing...just wanted to call your attention to a new IKEA shower curtain that I bought and never used..

Shut the Duck Up!....Mine is named Blanche..
Now this t-shirt I should probably get!
My Duck has been around since I was a teenager...we would have long talks in the shower...or sometimes Blanche would be the alter ego that would pop out and become the funniest thing around...quite gregarious she was. My...we did have lots of fun, Blanche and I.
Other times the miserable Duck would start complaining loudly in my head...your hair is a mess, they're probably talking about you, you look ugly in that outfit, why aren't you pretty...I knew it was Blanche and it took me a few years to realize that this 'miserable Duck' was largely up to no good. I discovered that sometimes you don't want to face up to the Duck, you know she made you feel insecure and bad...so that's when I would have a talk in the shower with the Blanche Duck...talking out loud...just seemed to make it more real...I could hear my own voice. This kind of self talk is effective. You never heard a quiet Duck..talk outloud and listen to how you sound. Aaahhh, those were the days.
I wonder what Blanche is doing these days? Haven't seen her in duckades...she was a real pain but actually turned out to be a good friend. I don't say Shut the Duck Up anymore as an internal voice metaphor but do, on occasion, still say shut the duck up!
Wanna tell me if you have a 'miserable quacking bad tempered duck' on your shoulder?

No matter how long and treacherous your life's journey may seem.....Remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
On a lighter note, I am a senior citizen that likes t-shirts with sayings on them. I just found some I have not seen before....check them out...ya think any of them would be good for me?
Hey, gals, we aren't the only ones with pieces and parts heading south
Alright, I'll quit...BTW, you may or may not know I have a large collection of Advertising, Casino, Vintage Ashtrays that I have listed at my store at...Supergrannys Treasures. I have many boxes that are not listed. I frequently visit other sites to check on ashtrays. I have to say ebay is getting some action and the prices are good...many are selling much higher than what I have them listed at on OLA.com. I almost always shop for the best price...but these buyers just see it and bid on it! Guess I could sell them on ebay, but their fee schedule is getting truly gruesome and this ole filly can't afford the fees. A Strong Woman of the Revolutionary War...Polly Cooper
According to Oneida oral tradition, Polly Cooper was a member of the relief mission organized by Chief Shenendoah, who sent a party of Oneidas with hundreds of bushels of white corn to help feed Gen. George Washington’s starving troops in the cruel winter of 1777-78.
The relief party walked more than 400 miles from Central New York to Valley Forge through the bitter cold. The corn they brought was white corn (about 600 bushels) and quite different from the yellow version that can be prepared simply. White corn, the variety grown by the Oneida people, requires extended preparation before it can be eaten.
But the American soldiers were desperate for food when Polly Cooper and her fellow Oneidas arrived, and they tried to eat the corn uncooked. The Oneidas stopped the soldiers, knowing that if they ate the raw corn it would swell in their stomachs and kill them.
Polly Cooper taught the soldiers how to cook the white corn, taking them through the preparation process and the lengthy cooking time. She stayed on after the other Oneidas departed for their homeland and continued to cook and help the troops.
The Oneida nation had long been successful traders and farmers and were one of the few tribes that allied themselves with the Americans. Many fought at various battles for the cause of independence.
Chief Rockwell wrote about his ancestor Polly Cooper several times between the 1930s and 1950s. The following account has been compiled from his two longest passages on the subject. The unpublished Rockwell Papers are owned by the Oneida Indian Nation.
“George Washington is called the father of this country; an Indian woman of the Oneida Nation should be called the mother of this country. Her name was Polly Cooper. She cooked for George Washington and his staff of officers when they were located in Philadelphia. Polly Cooper would not accept cash payment for her part in the Revolutionary War. Isn't that just like what a mother does for her children?
So the wives of the officers invited Polly Cooper to take a walk downtown with them. As they were looking in the store windows, Polly saw a black shawl on display that she thought was the best article.
When the women returned to their homes, they told their husbands what Polly saw that she liked so well. Money was appropriated by congress for the purpose of the shawl, and it was given to Polly Cooper for her services as a cook for the officers of the continental Army. The shawl is still owned by members of the Oneida Nation, descendants of Polly Cooper.
When I was a boy, I used to hear by people talk about Polly Cooper's bravery, about how she cooked and carried water to the soldiers. Whenever she had a chance between the hours of cooking duty, Polly would roll up her sleeves and take two pails of water, one container in each hand, and go into the battlefield. She would give water to quench the dry throats of the soldiers on either side and she walked on both sides of the firing line without fear of harm. Polly Cooper gave water to the enemy soldiers as well as to the men in the colonial army because she believed the war was not over water or food.
She knew that, when the war was over, people would continue to have all the water and food they needed no matter which side won. Polly knew the war was about freedom in thought, to develop principles for the good of all living and the coming generations.
Polly Cooper's thoughts were that all men, no matter what country they were fighting for, they all had mothers. And the mothers didn't send their sons out to kill other mothers' sons. All the old Indian people I heard talk 50 years, 60 years, and 70 years ago favored the mothers' right to govern people. Mothers carried the child before it was born. They nursed and cared for it in every way so that the infant knew the hands that held it were a dependable love.
Before the Europeans came into the country, the Iroquois women were the heads of domestic affairs. Since they took upon themselves the responsibilities of the home, it was therefore very natural they should have the right to govern home affairs. I support the good judgment of my Iroquois ancestors who yielded to womanhood for love and a peaceful government (William Rockwell)."
The United States has such a rich history...the story of Polly Cooper and the Oneidas is only one small example.
Our brave ancestors, in order to allow the United States to thrive in our freedoms, sacrificed and fought under horrific conditions...you think we need to remember our beginnings? and...fight just as hard to safeguard our freedoms today? I do....

Do You Like Being Old?.....Enjoy The Freedom of Old Age?
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 40 & 50's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will. There is no 'law' that a senior must wear flannel to bed.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be.
Inotherwords..
And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).

What do Retired People do all day?...Chinese Eye Test
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Here's an example of what one retired couple do to stay active and have a little harmless fun: the other day my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?'

He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So my wife called him a shit-head.
He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age.
Oh, yes, it's nothing but busy busy busy!! I've not tried that one....haven't had time...By the time I get up, make coffee, clean teeth, put em in, get hubbys early morning pills, get pills for the two of us, roll him out of bed so I can make it, ask him what he wants for breakfast, turn on computer, get coffee, ask him what he wants for dinner, clean the litter box, decide what 'fashion' to wear, get dressed, ask him what he wants for lunch, he says...'still thinking on breakfast".....by then it's too late for breakfast...
It is important to keep your mind and body active, not to mention your bowels!
Don't neglect your eyesight...take this 'Chinese Eye Test'...
If you cannot decipher anything, then try pulling
the corner of your eyes as if you were Chinese.
It works ... I'm not kidding try it !!
My eyes are not that good, but I did manage to read it without pulling my eyes...guess everything is still good.....

A TWITTER TV Show? and What Would Al Gore Do??
In Mashable The Social Media Guide, talks about what I might call a twitter-com for TV instead of a "sitcom". I don't really want to know what the movie & TV "stars" are doing at any given moment in time, but my imaginative juices have been working overtime creating in my mind ideas for a tv show that has a storyline of how twittering tweets affects their lives - especially from a mobile phone or one of the other high tech gadgets that I know nothing about. It would take some creative writing to have twitter engaging dialogue between tweeters and the consequences from same. I can see hilarity ensuing! Maybe there will be a bidding war happening for an item up for auction at Online Auction! What men talk about...or women...or a man and a woman...a foreign language tech service representative on a help line trying to tweet...a Dr's office relaying test results...neighborhood sleuths...
Anyway, the article was an interesting one...check it out! Click Here for Twitter Article
Speaking of new TV shows, Wednesday May 27 is the debut of a new animated series ‘The Goode Family,’ which pokes fun at a household of environmentalists living in the Midwest.
An article in the Life and Style section of the Wall Street Journal, written by Jamin Brophy-Warren has this to say about Director Mike Judge’s new animated television series "The Goode Family" which is a send-up of a clan of environmentalists who live by the words "What would Al Gore do?"
Gerald and Helen Goode want nothing more than to minimize their carbon footprint. They feed their dog, Che, only veggies (much to the pet’s dismay) and Mr. Goode dutifully separates sheets of toilet paper when his wife accidentally buys two-ply. And, of course, the family drives a hybrid.
From the creator of ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ and ‘King of the Hill’. Sounds like the perfect spoof on environmentalists, being politically correct, and being TOO green to defy common sense. I for one, will be watching...at least once!!!

Dealing with Stress - Ask Questions - Take a Break
Are you wondering why everyone from the government folks to the news media, are saying we spend our $ on middle east oil when Saudi is #3 behind Mexico #2 and Canada #1? Gas prices are going back up - what happened to Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less? What....do we all have short memories?
Has anybody asked the folks that WE elected to explain what is going on and why is all this happening? They are supposed to be working FOR us, aaarrgghhh!
OK, let's take a badly needed break and try to relax, smell the roses, and stop the blood from gushing from our eyes...
Someone said to do this to bring out your Inner Radiance.....or help to restore your sanity
(I don't know how effective this might be for me as a senior citizen - I'm thinking my inner radiance is imbedded so deep..it may be gone forever)
According to Ayurveda, the ancient tradition of medicine from India, a facial massage promotes health and brings out your inner radiance. Using your middle fingers, rub these points on your face in a clockwise direction for 20-30 seconds each: middle of the chin, corners of the mouth, middle of the area between your upper lip and nose, outer edges of both nostrils, center of the cheek bones, temples, and the space between the eyebrows.
Try whining! Don't forget the Bread & Cheese....................
Talking about your problems can seem unproductive. But vocalizing your thoughts about things that are bothering you is actually a great stress release — it gets what’s troubling you out of your head so you can say it stop dwelling and start moving forward. Make a date with a friend to take turns venting. When you’re the listener, don’t commiserate or offer advice. Just be an attentive audience. If you don’t want to vent to someone else, talk to yourself in the shower - in a LOUD voice.....or you could write it down. I know I feel much relieved after telling all of you my stresses....thanks!!
Some folks would benefit by trying this.....IF they can get on the floor.........Don't try this unless you can get back up!
Know how a cranky child magically transforms into a little angel after a nap? Today, treat yourself to five minutes of rest. Gather two firm pillows, then sit on your heels on the floor. Keeping your toes together, open the knees wide and stack the pillows between your knees. Rest your torso on the pillows, head turned to one side. Breathe deeply, releasing tension with each exhale. After several breaths, turn your head to the other side.
Is this helping to relieve your stress? Try this...
Take the sting out of the stress of watching or listening to the news with this 30-second massage. Rest your elbows on a table and place your thumbs under your eyebrows on either side of the bridge of your nose. Let the weight of your head rest on your thumbs for 10 seconds. Then pinch your eyebrows with your thumbs and index fingers. Hold for 1 second, then move your fingers a half-inch out. Repeat until you’ve covered the whole brow.
Occasionaly forget the worlds woes and pretend it is your birthday and splurge by expending what energy you have left on you...
Remember when Mom used to make your favorite meal for your birthday, and how great it made you feel? Pretend it's your birthday and treat yourself to one of your very favorite things — whether it's homemade mac and cheese, a bouquet of fresh flowers, or even a nap. When you make it a point to treat yourself well, other people will be more likely to do the same.
Of course, shopping for a little "sumpin sumpin" for yourself or a gift for someone else is a fun thing to do. I'm thinking you all should make a visit to the Bargain place on the web. OnlineAuction.com. CLICK HERE for Online Auction

Questions That Will Haunt You...Exercise Your Thought Processes
Like Cora Harvey Armstrong says "Inside every older person is a younger person -- wondering what the hell happened."
So in an effort to keep the old gray matter firm - here's some questions that you can exercise your thought processes by pondering on them....musing, as you will....
Can you cry under water?
How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... But it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to? (I think the government secretly put a tax on it!)
Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
What disease did cured ham actually have?
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?
Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?
Shouldn't it be the other way around!!!
Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? (My husband is convinced I have an obsession to make burnt offerings to the bread gods!)
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?
Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?
If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours?
They're both dogs!
If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
If we call people from Poland Poles....why don't we call people from Holland Holes?
Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?
Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
What do you think? Come up with any explanations? Keep thinking....like Bette Davis says "Old age ain't no place for sissies." Cr*p, ain't this just the sh*ts?

Thomas Jefferson-A Wise Man
.....really take some time and think about his comment...our future generations depend on it.
Here's another word from the wise Jefferson....
To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.
I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious. - Thomas Jefferson
These comments from the 1800s are appropriate for today...WHAT are We The People allowing to happen?
and yet another Jefferson wise snippet....
In matters of style, swim with the current;
In matters of principle, stand like a rock.
So, ask yourself, are you going with the current trend of Big Government? or are you sticking to your principles and standing firm like a rock for our liberty? We need to use common sense when "hiring" our representatives. They are supposed to have OUR best interests at heart.....think about it!!
Now, back to being an aging badly, retired bit of humor...
A Biker and His Babe See what we have to look forward to....
This is what happens when your children take away your driver's license . I must really be slipping......looks like FUN to me!
Have a Delicious day!!!

In GOD We Trust....
You may have heard in the news that a couple of Post Offices in Texas have been forced to take down small posters that say IN GOD WE TRUST.
The law, they say, is being violated. Anyway, we heard proposed on a radio station show, that we should all write 'IN GOD WE TRUST' on the back of all our mail.. After all, that's our National Motto, and it's on all the money we use to buy those stamps. We think it's a wonderful idea. We must take back our nation from all the people who think that anything that offends them should be removed.
If you like this idea, please pass it on and DO IT. The idea of writing or stamping 'IN GOD WE TRUST' on our envelopes sounds good to us. WE'RE HAVING A STAMP MADE TOO!
Heck, lets use it as our signature on e-mails too! It's been reported that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, we have a very hard time understanding why there's such a mess about having 'In God We Trust!' on our money and having God in the pledge of Allegiance.
Could it be that WE just need to take action and tell the 14% to 'sit down and shut up'?
If you agree, pass this on, JUST COPY AND PASTE INTO AN EMAIL.
BUT REMEMBER IF YOU DON'T, that's 1 reason why this world is in the mess we're in now. WE SIT BACK & LET IT HAPPEN!
