Oil Rig Explosion...What Do We Do Now?

You may have noticed...I've been out of the loop...truth be told..I've been hiding under my 'rock'.

So many things are going on I just became overwhelmed with it all...but have discovered I cannot escape!

When I read the newspaper this morning and saw this cartoon - I knew I had to share it with anyone that still may be lurking out there. Check it out, I'd like to know what you think.....

Photobucket

Does that make sense? What a horrible tragedy - we don't need an additional layer of tragedy.

Are You Aging Gracefully?.....Well, I'm NOT

Pay attention....there's something creeping up on you...watch out
Photobucket

Relax...this is no ghost story...it's worse..GROWING OLD!

I've discovered that my mind is still processing even when I'm playing FarmVille, Cafe World on Facebook or working on my little shop at OnlineAuction.com. My husband says my mind is like the hard drive in my computer...it needs de-fragged every so often!

I didn't pay much attention to the state of my body until the last few years...so many things are going wrong...isn't there a warranty on this pile of flesh?

Here's a few of my musings...
Skin flaps...what was our Creator thinking? what is the purpose of these flappy little pieces of skin showing up willy nilly...NO place is sacred to them.

Feet...they're a changin..mine used to be a petite 6...now they're spread out to an 8.

Mirror...peripheral vision offered me a glimpse of my mother the other day. Startled me...but when she spoke...I broke into a cold sweat when I discovered it was me!

Several years ago, I put on shorts at the beginning of the season and my dear sweet husband comes up with "When you gonna press them knees?". Well, that honest observation sent me into peels of laughter...just as well laugh as cry.

This process of becoming a truly Senior Citizen thing is a nasty vicious joke.....it's MEAN ...just plain mean.

I am so sorry I used to complain about having to shave my legs like every other day. and all that armpit hair...let it go and you could have braids in a few days. Crap, now I don't have to shave those places but maybe once every month or six. That's good news and my toes never have to be shorn.

BUT.....NOW, I've got hairs growing out of selected spots on my chin....I have one long begger that is partial to my left ear lobe. Five years ago I would never have thought I would have nose hairs showing or a moustache for crying out loud.

This is a favorite poem by Donna Vickodil...

Growing Old Gracefully

There's a mole on my neck that's growing a hair
When I was younger it wasn't there
A lot of things changed since I've grown older like my fallen arches and this hump on my shoulder
Yesterday I noticed a twitch in one eye and spots on my hand that resemble a fly
I used to be able to party all night but now to stay awake until five is a fight
My breasts used to be firm and quite pert
Now I have to be careful they don't drag in the dirt
Gravity surely has taken its toll
What was once on the surface is now in a hole
The backs of my arms are wobbly like jelly and I found the remote tucked under my belly
I used to eat steak but now I can't chew it
Growing old gracefully. I don't think I can do it !
Copyright: Donna Vickodil

Is there anybody out there that really thinks this is funny? Don't laugh too loud...it's gonna happen to you

The only saving grace is my heart, as long as it beats, I am still a fun and loving aging free spirit when I'm not wrought with worry

As long as my brain functions I'm happy...except those days when I can remember when I was 6 and somebody stepped on my mud pie but today I have to check my drivers license to catch my name....(sigh)

A positive to growing old...you can tell your deepest secrets to your friends... they won't remember them either.

There's so many things I could go on about...the eyes, driving, hormones, sex, gas, memory.....aargh! Time for a nap!  Yes, I'm growing old and there's no dad-gummed way I intend to go without a ruckus!

Happy Easter...Things to Learn From The Easter Bunny

All I need to know I learned from the Easter Bunny!

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

easter basket Pictures, Images and Photos

Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.

easter bunny Pictures, Images and Photos

There's no such thing as too much candy.

All work and no play can make you a basket case.

A cute tail attracts a lot of attention.

Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.

Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.

Some body parts should be floppy.

easter bunny Pictures, Images and Photos

Keep your paws off of other people's jelly beans.

Good things come in small, sugar coated packages.

The grass is always greener in someone else's basket.

To show your true colors, you have to come out of the shell.

The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.

May the joy of the season fill your heart.

Happy Easter! Have a blessed holiday and enjoy your friends and family!

How's Your Right Brain?

Ever wonder how your right brain is functioning?  Time yourself....
Find the man between the coffee beans. Doctors have concluded that if
you find the man in 3 seconds that the right half of your brain is better
developed than most people.

If you find the man between three seconds
and one minute, then the right half of your brain is developed normally.

If you find the man between one minute and three minutes, then the
right half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to eat more
protein.

If you have not found the man after three minutes the right half of your
brain is a mess, and the only advise is to look more for these types of
exercises to make that part of the brain stronger.
Photobucket

WHEW! I feel better now...I found the man!

The man is really there. Now that I know  the right side of my brain is highly developed, I'm wondering what's up with the left side...there's no test for that side?   Guess I'll investigate......

BTW, just thought I would remind you that April's Fools Day will be here next week...be alert and don't let some clever 'fool-maker' get you.

Good News for Senior Citizens....

It ain't all bad!!! Stop thinking doom and gloom. Oh, I know it's hard, especially this time of year. The weather's bleak. Flooding in March? You are poorer and older than you were last year, and you may be fatter. OK, let's don't get negative............

Your memory is shot.  You know deep down in your heart that you are becoming forgetful and what about all your bad habits?  Wish you could just resolve to make them disappear? POOF!! All gone............(I said, don't go negative......the world is in even worse shape than you are.)

Here's some good news to bolster you.......

The older brain is a wiser brain.   According to new findings in neuroscience, your inability to remember names at cocktail parties or where you left your keys is not necessarily a symptom of early-onset dementia.  Instead, it is a sign that your focus of attention has become broader. Getting distracted could be a good thing.
Did you ever think that getting distracted allows our creative juices to flow?  "It may increase the amount of information available to the conscious mind," Shelley H. Carson, a Harvard psychology researcher, told The New York Times.

"A broad attention span may enable older adults to ultimately know more about a situation and the indirect message of what's going on than their younger peers," adds Dr. Lynn Hasher, at the University of Toronto. "We believe that this characteristic may play a significant role in why we think of older people as wiser." In other words, while younger brains are cluttered up with trivia, your brain is freed to work on a whole lot more important things.

Be excited - the windmills of your mind just may not splinter!!!

Losing the ability to think, understand, and; learn among people over 70 has been declining sharply in recent years. Brain scientists aren't sure why, but they think it's tied to the fact that older people are better educated, wealthier(oh, really?) and more active than ever before. People who are better off are more likely to use it, not lose it (unless you knew Bernie Madoff).  So remember: Like sex, mental challenges are very good for you, and you are never too old. Spending time Googling is good for you.

There are remarkable findings about brain plasticity. It seems that the brain - even the aging brain - is more malleable than previously thought.  It can even grow new nerve cells. One day, you'll probably be able to take a pill to help keep your neural pathways firing on all cylinders. Meantime, exercise, social connections, flexibility (can you touch your toes?) and eagerness to embrace new experiences are extremely effective cognitive medicine.  Do you blog, twitter, use facebook?  All are good for your brain.  I guess the exercise of learning html is a very good thing even if it gives me a headache.....sigh....guess I'll keep working on 'flowing my brain juices'...

Now THAT'S Good News!!!

If you want to read more about this subject or spend a little time exercising your brain with some teasers...you can visit Sharp Brains...Brain Teasers.

Health Care Reform Will Allow Artists to Quit Their Day Jobs.....YIPPEE!!

I am SO excited...Thursday night on the Rachel Maddow Show, Nancy Pelosi said  because I have always wanted to paint and write, (you know, be an artist) that when the new health care bill was in place I could quit my job, not to worry, she and everybody else would pay my health care insuramce premium.  FINALLY all my artistic juices can be utilized!

I never DREAMED that I would have this opportunity to spend my days in the park painting and gazing at the clouds....waiting for some prose to overtake me.....sigh.....I've got to check and see if she'll also take care of my mortgage payment and food, etc.

Do you think she will buy the gas for my car so I can get to the park? I mean,  I'll need gas to transport all my stuff to the park in my car so I can be truly artistic..... I can't REALLY just live on the fact that she'll pay my health care costs..... How's that gonna work?......OH, NO, I can feel my artistic juices drying up already with all this worry....wonder where my pizza money will come from?...oh, yea, and the beer?  Wait, I've gotta think this through..... It's just not making any sense....is it? (guess I'll go back to work in the morning...'cept I'm retired)

Read Freedom Edens Blog .  I love her last paragraph, "So the economy would come to a screeching halt, but there would be a lot of crappy art to see and bad poetry to read."
Photobucket
The Weekly Standard has an interesting article entitled  "Pelosi's Republic The House Speaker says health care reform will finally allow artists to focus on being unemployed, comfortably."

The Amazing Human Body...Some Facts...Happy St Patricks Day

The Amazing Human Body!  Do you believe ALL this?

It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.  (right..and 2 seconds to go from your stomach to your butt)

One human hair can support 3kg (6.6 lb).

The average man's private area is three times the length of his thumb.

Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.

Women blink twice as often as men.  (they're saying to themselves...I don't believe what I'm hearing)

The average person's skin weighs twice as much as the brain.

Starry Starry Night...Vincent Van Gogh...Art Appreciation Day

“Vincent," as you may know, was a song by Don McLean, written in the seventies as a tribute to Vincent van Gogh. It is also known by its opening line, "Starry Starry Night", a reference to van Gogh's painting "Starry Night."

The song describes different paintings by Van Gogh.

Don McLean wrote the lyrics in 1971 after reading a book about the life of the artist. The following year the song became the No. 1 hit in the U.K. and No. 12 in the U.S.

For several years, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam played the song daily. A copy of the sheet music is in a safe beneath the museum, along with a set of van Gogh's paint brushes, the hat he wore while painting Starry Night and various other items.

It is rumored that Van Gogh's painting of the 'Starry Night' was painted during the time he was in an asylum and we've heard that he sold only one painting during his lifetime, as his genius was not recognized. That's perhaps what caused him to fall into an abyss of depression which eventually led to his suicide. How tragic to have felt so hopeless and not understood in spite of being so gifted!

This video with exquisite music accompanied by Van Goghs paintings really moved me. It is beautiful and thought provoking. It's time for a moment of beauty.

Goda di...enjoy!

Facts For and About Women....

This is either all about women or facts that concern women....I enjoyed looking for all these so hope somebody out there will enjoy them as well......

Okay, Okay, it all makes sense now... I never looked at it this way before: MENtal illness MENstrual cramps MENtal breakdown MENopause GUYnecologist And when we have REAL trouble, it's a... HISterectomy... Ever notice how all of women's problems start with MEN?
Photobucket
Here is a fascinating TULANE STUDY...

A study worth sharing with friends both male and female: A study conducted by Tulane's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle.

For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features.

However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire.

No further studies are expected.

Many years ago in Scotland , a new game was invented.. It was ruled 'Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden'.. .and thus, the word GOLF entered into the English language.
Photobucket
In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man
was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb.
Hence we have 'the rule of thumb' .
Photobucket
Q. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers and
laser printers have in common?
A. All were invented by women.
Photobucket
Now here's one that might just come in handy...well, only if you're as old as I am....

This is a picture of an 83-year-old woman who talked herself
out of a speeding ticket by telling the young officer that she had to get there before she forgot where she was going!

Makes perfectly good sense to me...happens more often than not...

Ant and Grasshopper Fable...Applies to Our Nation Today?

I thought the old version of this fable would be a common sense suggestion that would benefit our country. Sadly, the modern version is...well...what do you think?

OLD VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

yellow tulip green line

Photobucket
yellow tulip green line

MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Then a Reverand has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake..

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood..

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

Only a parady and humorous...sort of....

happy valentines bar
