Government Efficiency....Story of the Night Watchman

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of
a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they
created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job. Then
Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?"
So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person
to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies. Then
Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks
correctly?"

(This is me....are you following this? )

So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One
was to do the studies and one was to write the reports. Then Congress
said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created two
positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.
Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"
So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal
Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year
and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back." So they laid-off
the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.  Seriously, you might want to read this again....

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter...Does anybody remember the
reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during
the Carter administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line is, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support
of an agency....the reason for which not one person who reads this can
remember!

Ready??

It was very simple... and at the time, everybody thought it very
appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO
LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.   (OMG, what did we do?)

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT'S 2012 -- 35 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS
"NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000
FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND
LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

(THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY
THINKING?")

34 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70%
of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO
INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

Signed....The Night Watchman

(This is me again....I am begging.....pleeeeze pay attention to what is happening to US....pay attention to and KNOW who you decide to vote for this year.  The freedom and quality of our lives depend on it.)

Old Butch...Vote Carefully

My dear friend (fleapirates) sent me a story this morning that should be read, thought about, and read again.  This is a learning moment for everyone.....seriously.....I'm not joking at all....you might think its funny but when you spend some time musing on it.....YIKES...it's true.......?

Old Butch

John was in the fertilized egg business.

He had several hundred young layers (hens), called 'pullets,' and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.

He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing.

Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.

John's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all!

When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring.

He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Saint Lawrence County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

Vote carefully this fall, the bells are not always audible.

2012 Social Security Stimulus Package

I just got this note from my friend, Suz......(not OLA Sue)

"Hey, SG,

Today I received my 2012 Social Security Stimulus Package.

It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, a prayer rug, a machine to blow smoke up my ass, 10 discount coupons to KFC and an "Obama Hope and Change" bumper sticker.

The directions were in Spanish.

Hope you get yours soon."

I'll bet if you're retired you'll be just as excited as I am....what do you think?

Chicago Rules

It matters not which political party affiliation you profess to be a part of
but if either side is insistant on telling 'Big Windy Stories' they should
be called out for them.

As we get closer and closer to the 2012 election, it's
important to remember The Rules we play by. The
Rules are taken from the Chicago playbook of rules
where they are simply known as... Chicago Rules.
Chicago Rules are illustrated by the six photographs
below:

Rod Blagojevich is the former Illinois Governor who tried to sell
Obama's seat in Congress.

Obama was asked by the press if he had ever met Gov. Rod
Blagojevich. He replied: "I only saw Rod Blagojevich one time
... And that was in the stands and from a distance at a Chicago
Bears Football Game."
Of course, you can believe him - he's our President

The picture below? That's irrelevant.

Rod Blagojevich, Barack Obama, and Richard Daley during a rally
in Chicago , April 16, 2007. (Photo: Reuters) Note: Rahm
Emanual has replaced Daley as Mayor! And Daley's brother has
replaced Rahm as a chief adviser to the president. But you don't
need to know all this.
Rham, the new Mayor of Chicago

You have to understand "the world according to Chicago."
Chicago is almost a completely different country when it comes to
politics. Chicago even has a different set of morals and language.
There are three rules and a Prime Directive.
RULE #1. No matter what you see, hear, or do -- you don't know
anybody & you know nothing!
RULE #2. If you capture something on tape or camera -- it
reveals nothing!
RULE #3. If you know what everybody else in Chicago knows --
you still know nothing.

The PRIME DIRECTIVE ...No matter what the vote,
Democrats win the election.

Now pay close attention!

It's very simple. Remember, you know nothing.

These two? They never met! Obama said they didn't..

These two? Who are they?

The guy on the left? He's Santa Claus. And the guy on the
right.... he's the Easter Bunny! That's all you need to know.

These two? Don't ask.

Remember Jimmy Hoffa? He knew too much. Where is he now?
Don't ask.

Do you understand? Don't look at these pictures! Remember,
you've already forgotten them.....

Do you understand? They don't know each other and they never
met!
How is that possible? BECAUSE OBAMA SAID SO!
And - don't - you - fergit - it! as a wise old
Cartoon Character used to say!

(By the way... how's that "Hope and Change" working out for
you?)

Sears for Christmas Shopping

It is nice to know you are showing your appreciation for our troops by giving Sears some business for helping those troops and their families. I think we all need to pass this to everyone.

Sears - Christmas shopping this year.

I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice. It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

Another Growing Old Post....OH NO!!

A good friend sent me this.  I don't know who the author is...but it mirrors my thoughts.  I thank Suz for sharing this with me...I hope you all enjoy it.  Remember it's not bemoaning the fact that we grow old, but rather the comfort and joy we should feel when we are comfortable in our sagging skin and enjoying life.  You may not be here yet, but rest assured, it will sneak up on you when you're not looking.    ENJOY!
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.  I very recently lost a very dear friend...his footprint is forever on my heart.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?   I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 40 & 50's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love... I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.  I am working on my memory.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be.

And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).
