Il Divo vs Football....No Contest
I found something that has given me the most goose bumps in manyayear....Il Divo! Candy for the ears...
'Il Divo' in Italian literally means a male (singular) 'prima donna.'
They are:
American tenor David Miller;
Swiss tenor Urs Buhler;
Spanish baritone Carlos Marin;
French pop singer Sebastien Izambard.
This group was initially brought together in 2004 by the infamous Simon Cowell after intensive worldwide auditions.
The virtuoso blending of operatic techniques with both romantic and popular tradition has taken the world by storm. They have sold over 22 million albums, the first three of which were 'Il Divo', 'Ancora,' and 'Sempre,' the last two translated into English are 'Again' and 'Always.'
Lastly, the group decided to work with only one producer, a longtime collaborator named Steve McCutcheon (aka Steve Mac). A musical genius, Mac is able to create beautiful orchestrations by experience.
Take a moment and give your eyes and ears a treat watching and listening to this group singing 'Amazing Grace' like you've never heard it before. The four guys performed "Amazing Grace" in the beautiful arena in Pula, Croatia .
This coliseum (smaller but better preserved than the one in Rome ) where the concert and recording were done is one of the most well-preserved Roman coliseums in the world. They are all excellent but make sure you hear the baritone....

Enjoy! Goda di!

Curtis and Leroy saw an ad in the Starkville Daily News Newspaper in Starkville, MS. and bought a mule for $100.The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day.
The next morning the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, fellows, I have some bad news, the mule died last night."
Curtis and Leroy replied, "Well, then just give us our money back."
The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."
They said, "OK then, just bring us the dead mule."
The farmer asked, "What in the world ya'll gonna do with a dead mule?"
Curtis said, "We gonna raffle him off."
The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead mule!"
Leroy said, "We shore can! Heck, we don't hafta tell nobody he's dead!"
A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Curtis and Leroy at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and asked.
"What'd you fellers ever do with that dead mule?"
They said,"We raffled him off like we said we wuz gonna do."
Leroy said,"Shucks, we sold 500 tickets fer two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898."
The farmer said,"My Lord, didn't anyone complain?"
Curtis said, "Well, the feller who won got upset. So we gave him his two dollars back."
Curtis and Leroy now work for the government.
They're overseeing the Bailout Program.

Halloween Factoids....Have Bats in Your Belfry?

It is now the time of year I start feeling every muscle and bone in my body going through its process of mourning the end of summer. Time to get out the stylish sweat pants with the elastic waist and the baggy sweaters and sweatshirts. AAAh....at least they're comforable. This time of year I can wear my supphose with impunity...nobody will see them...

After I've finished putting away the tank tops and shorts and reloading my drawers with the aforementioned 'fashions', I've got to shop for the Halloween snacks and start my holiday shopping lists.
I was thinking about Halloween this morning and went searching for some factoids....I came up with a few.....

If someone says you have 'bats in your belfry'...say thank you since it would mean you have bats in your yard (if you don't have a bell tower), where they eat about 1,000 mosquitos for a meal.
The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.
There are more than 1,000 species of bats in the world! They live on every continent of the world, except Antarctica. Bats do not live in areas where it is very hot or very cold.
To catch insects, bats use their wings. Their wings are the only part of their bodies not covered by hair, but with thin, tough skin. Bats use their wings like hands, and they have little thumbs and wrists on them.
Bats have long been associated with Halloween but the connection is less skeery than some would suspect. In Halloween's ancient origins people would gather together around giant bonfires to ward off evil spirits. Attracted to the warmth and bright light of these fires were many small flying insects. Natural food for hungry bats. People saw the bats flickering in and out of the firelight during the festivals and they became a feature of Halloween lore. They are the only true flying mammals.
Ever used the saying 'blind as a bat'? I have, but guess what? They aren't blind..
Our modern celebration of Halloween is a descendent of the ancient Celtic fire festival called "Samhain". The word is pronounced "sow-in (rhymes with cow).
Folk tradition tells us of many divination practices associated with Samhain. Among the most common were divinations dealing with marriage, weather, and the coming fortunes for the year. These were performed via such methods as ducking for apples, and apple peeling.
Ducking for apples was a marriage divination. The first person to bite an apple would be the first to marry in the coming year. I'll bet there's some folks out there wishing they hadn't been in that early apple bobbing event!
Apple peeling was a divination to see how long your life would be. The longer the unbroken apple peel, the longer your life was destined to be.
In Scotland, people would place stones in the ashes of the hearth before retiring for the night. Anyone whose stone had been disturbed during the night was said to be destined to die during the coming year.

Then we have Jack O'Lanterns.......
Pumpkin carving is a popular part of modern America's Halloween celebration. Come October, pumpkins can be found everywhere in the country from doorsteps to dinner tables. Despite the widespread carving that goes on in this country every autumn, few Americans really know why or when the jack o'lantern tradition began. Read on to find out!
The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul.
The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.
Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern."
In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack o'lanterns.

What? Tax On Sugar Drinks..or Who Says We're Too Fat?
Being an independant minded person, I have been watching and listening to the news every day. I wonder how many of you realize the extent things are changing in our country? Do you ignore it?
This isn't the BIG thing but definitely something to think about. If this passes, we will ALL be affected.
Do you think it is appropriate for the government to impose a 1 cent per OUNCE tax on all drinks containing sugar? (It's not that they are worried about our sugar consumption....it's just another way to TAX US)
I saw this and decided it pretty much says it all...
Two Story Outhouse

Yep!!! This pretty much says it all.
I am sorta confused, I thought our congressman and senators were in office to work for US? Pay attention, learn, and understand what's happening to our Republic!
I'm selling a good share of my Collectibles Identification, Reference, and Price Guide Books and came across this Kitchen Collectibles one....so decided I just as well jump on the hay wagon!!

All you have to do is type in AK into the search bar between Sept. 29 - Oct. 5th. at Online Auction
Mauzys Kitchen Collectibles Identification Price Guide Softcover Book
Click here on Sept 29 to see it!

Will be listing other vintage kitchen items...really makes me wonder about my 'thought' process all these past years. When something got old and dull...I would toss it and buy a shiny new item. What was I thinking? Now I appreciate vintage (s'pose it is because I am vintage?) and will opt to buy vintage over shiny new Made in China!!! Buy vintage....like a fine wine....it really is better!

Google does not use the "keywords" meta tag ..I am so confused...
Google does not use the "keywords" meta tag in its web search ranking. Google's Matt Cutts,
can be seen or read the article in a Webmaster Central video. This is not breaking news, by any means, but there are a lot of people out there that still put a lot of stock into this. Read the entire article and see the video. This is just an excerpt.
"In fact, Cutts mentions that people have sued each other for meta tag keyword theft, when really this is just a waste of everybody's time, because they don't even play a role in the ranking of sites on Google. Have you been under the impression that the keywords meta tag was important to ranking in Google?
"About a decade ago, search engines judged pages only on the content of web pages, not any so-called "off-page" factors such as the links pointing to a web page," says Cutts. "In those days, keyword meta tags quickly became an area where someone could stuff often-irrelevant keywords without typical visitors ever seeing those keywords. Because the keywords meta tag was so often abused, many years ago Google began disregarding the keywords meta tag."
Just because Google ignores the "keywords" meta tag, that doesn't mean it ignores all meta tags. In fact, there are several that the search engine definitely uses. For one, Google sometimes uses the "description" meta tag as the text for search results snippets. But even in then, the "description" meta tag isn't used to influence ranking."
On a lighter note...this little joke is funny...I don't care who you are...

Going to get an H1N1 Swine Flu Shot?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the first doses of swine flu vaccine should get into Americans in a couple of weeks -- but through their noses, not their arms.
Around 3.4 million doses of a swine flu version of the spray vaccine known as FluMist will be shipped the first week of October. Each state will get a share according to its population size.
The nasal spray vaccine won the race because it contains a live, though chemically crippled, form of the pandemic H1N1 virus. Producing the live-virus vaccine was faster than killed-virus preparation used in shots.
Let's get this straight..do NOT get the Flumist if you are pregnant or an infant under 6 mths old, or if you're over 49 UNLESS you have diabetes or heart disease.
If you're healthy and are a health care worker or are aged two to 18 years old, OR if you have close contact with babies younger than 6 months, or are 19 to 24 years old. Practically need to create a spreadsheet to figure that out.
I don't see a category for old farts over 70 so guess I won't worry about it.
I did hear on Dr Rosenfelds Sunday House Call segment yesterday morning that because the nasal mist is made with a live virus, to be very careful and not infect anyone who is health compromised as it could be spread. OK, I've expended enough time on the H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine....
......forget the whole thing and go get a good bottle of whiskey!!! Ever see a bug live in a bottle of whiskey?
You may think this little story has nothing to do with flu...but keep reading and you'll see...
Miss Beatrice, The church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all.
One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.
As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, The young minister noticed a cute glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom!
When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.
'Miss Beatrice', he said, 'I wonder if you would tell me about this?'
pointing to the bowl.
'Oh, yes,' she replied, 'Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground.
The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu All winter.'
Now, I ask you, do we really need a flu shot?? Get a jug of whiskey and float a condom...bada bing bada boom........

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.
Then....we could go into musing about how all those tatoos will look on an 80 yr old body....

So, not satisfied that I knew why something in a can is called 'spotted dick'...I searched on....Wickipedia and found this....

Spotted Dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit (usually currants) commonly served with custard, and a standard part of English cuisine. Spotted refers to the dried fruit (which resemble spots) and Dick may be a contraction/corruption of the word pudding (from the last syllable) or possibly a corruption of the word dough.[1] Another explanation offered for the latter half of the name is that it comes from the German word for "thick," in reference to the thickened suet mixture.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest documented reference is a recipe for "Plum Bolster or Spotted Dick," in Alexis Soyer's The Modern Housewife of Menagere (1850).
The catering staff at Flintshire County Council and hospital managers at Gloucestershire NHS Trust renamed the pudding Spotted Richard on menus due to the use of Dick, which is short for Richard but also slang for penis, in the original name. Gloucestershire NHS Trust restored the original name in 2002.
I'm leaning toward the mispronunciation of the German word for 'thick'....makes sense to me....
Then I found this.....
A Staff Report from Straight Dope Science Advisory Board (Fighting Ignorance Since 1973)
What's the origin of "spotted dick"?
August 27, 2002
Dear Straight Dope:
Can you shed any light on the etymology of "Spotted Dick"? It's a British concoction, a steamed, log-shaped suet pudding studded with currants, hence the "spotted." But why the "dick"?
The first explanation that leaps to mind seems highly unlikely, but I haven't been able to find a detailed and credible account of how this venerable dessert really did get its name. The best I found in over 40 pages of Google results was someone who thinks he read somewhere that the words "dick," "dog" and "duff" when applied to puddings were all derivatives of the word "dough." OK, "duff" and "dog" seem pretty plausible linguistic mutations, but even allowing for strange regional British accents, "dick" seems a little bit of a stretch. My British parents are also at a loss to explain.
— Jayne
We just tackled the origin of "Dick" as a nickname and a few other usages--a riding whip, an apron, abbreviation for "dictionary," a policeman, a declaration, and (of course), the penis.
With all these varied usages, you got a problem with "dick" being also derived from "pudding"? My sources all pretty much agree with the derivation, without being specific how. However, I can see "pudding" become "puddink" becoming "puddick" and then just "dick."
The word "dick" has appeared in any number of strange places. Around the 1840s, "dick" was used to mean a type of hard cheese; when treacle sauce was added, it became "treacle dick", and finally when currants or raisins were added (looking like little spots), the "spotted dick" was born.
The earliest recipes for spotted dick are from 1847. For non-British readers, "spotted dick" is a boiled suet pudding, with bits of dried fruit (usually raisins or currants) that (as already noted) look like little spots.
The Oxford Companion to Food comments that, strictly speaking, "spotted dick" is made by taking a flat sheet, spreading sugar and raisins on it, then rolling it up. A similar dessert is "spotted dog," a plain cylinder of suet paste with the raisins and currants and sugar stuck into it, so that the spots are visible on the outside. Both spotted dick and spotted dog were traditionally boiled (or even steamed) in a cloth, but nowadays they are usually baked.
The dessert is slightly different in Ireland. In Ireland in the late 1800s, the tradition of yeast-bread manufacture was not strong, so most breads were raised with bicarbonate of soda and an acid, rather than with yeast, and thus called soda breads. Thus, the spotted dick in Ireland is sweet soda bread, with sugar, currants, and raisins, and it's also called the spotted dog or railway cake.
— Dex
Well, there you have it...the complete story on spotted dick in a can, where you can buy it...even a used can(?) and variations from different countries...the whole thing boils down to I used the 'inquiring minds want to know' philosophy into "what the heck, I have some time to devote to this 'thirst for knowledge'". Makes me sound very professorial don't you think? AND it all started with the reading of a new blog post from I Hate My Message Board and following some links. Reflecting on 9-11-2001...

7 years ago our lives were changed
Never to be the same
And to think it all started
Because someone hijacked a plane
Terrorists they called them
A word that became well known
They destroyed so many lives that day
They attacked our home
The United States stood frozen
For a moment in time
As we watched those people
Commit an unexplainable crime
Then sadness and emotion came
Our fears took flight
And we realized we had
To stand up and fight
Our heroes our brave
All banded so strong
To face our enemy
Who we knew was wrong
They brave they're lives
And sometimes they're lost
I believe in this war
But at what cost?
We've lost so many soldiers
Yet gained no respect
From the people we fight
Who never seem to reflect
On the havoc they reeked
That September day
When for just one moment
America all stopped to pray
So today stand up
Remember and be proud
America band together
Dont be afraid to be loud
Show them our pride
In the Red White and Blue
Where freedom is a word
That rings Loud and True
Make them remember
The loved ones lost that day
And everyday since
Kneel down and pray
Pray loud and Thank God!
Wherever you may be
That we live in America
The LAND OF THE FREE
Written by Sasha Thomas
Remember all those lost 7 years ago. Pray for their families and all of our soldiers who are fighting for our freedom and who have lost their lives in this war. We will never forget 09-11-2001!

Ever heard an Outhouse referred to as BC?
She wanted to make sure the campground was fully equipped, but didn't quite know how to ask about the toilet facilities. She just couldn't bring herself to write the word "toilet" in her letter. After much deliberation, she finally came up with the old-fashioned term BATHROOM COMMODE.
But when she wrote that down, she still thought she was being too forward. So she started all over again and rewrote the entire letter referring to the bathroom commode merely as the BC. "Does the campground have it's own BC?" is what she actually wrote.Well, the campground owner wasn't old-fashioned at all, and when he got the letter, he just couldn't figure out what the woman was talking about. That BC business really stumped him.
After worrying about it for awhile, he showed the letter to several campers, but they couldn't imagine what the lady meant either. So the campground owner, finally coming to the conclusion that the lady must be asking about he local Baptist Church, sat down and wrote the following reply:
Dear Madam:
I regret very much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take pleasure in informing you that a BC is located nine miles north of the campground and is capable of seating 250 people at one time. I admit it is quite a distance away, if you are in the habit of going regularly, but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of people take their lunches along and make a day of it. They usually arrive early and stay late. It is such a beautiful facility and the acoustics are marvelous. Even the normal delivery sounds can be heard.
The last time my wife and I went was six years ago, and it was so crowded we had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may interest you to know that right now a supper is planned to raise money to buy more seats.
I would like to say it pains me very much not to be able to go more regularly, but it surely is no lack of desire on my part. As we grow old, it seems to be more of an effort, particularly in cold weather.
If you do decide to come down to our campground, perhaps I could go with you the first time you go, sit with you, and introduce you to all the other folks.
Remember, this is a friendly community.
Sincerely,
Campground Owner

Do we need a Gratitude and a Spread Joy Reminder In Our Attitudes?
This is a reminder of something we can do daily to give us a positive attitude boost! If you've seen them...watch them again...definitely puts a smile on your face...
The Gratitude Dance
This video, produced by the "Gratidudes", infuses an upbeat Caribbean tune with choreography that vaguely resembles a chicken at a square dance.
Although there have been no studies done on the subject, you should try dancing it with a frown on your face -- it's impossible.
All of this may feel frivolous as people lose their jobs and struggle financially, but one thing that has been proven is that negativity evokes more negativity. If you spend much time watching the news and wondering why the politicians we voted for are making noises that they know what is best for us, etc etc etc, then an attitude adjustment towards the positive is indeed in order. The theory behind Brightsiding is that we need to be energized in order to have the strength to pull ourselves up by our boot straps.
Breaking it down even more, to break the cycle of negativity, you need to compartmentalize: you do all you can to make your life, your family and your community better. But when you've done all you can, you need to think about something other than the sad scary stuff. You need to fortify yourself with laughter, positive thoughts and the joy of being with the people you love.
So, whether you lighten your mood by watching these videos or doing something fun with the people you love, remember that there is a bright side, and you can find it.
The Gratitude Dance by the Gratidudes needs to be seen and heard. It's amazing...try it!
BRIGHTSIDING....
There are some people who respond to the spirit-crushing and downright scary headlines with a cheerfulness that's almost inappropriate.
It's called "Brightsiding." It's based on the belief that, though you can't control the stock market or your job security, you can control your outlook on life. So why not stay positive?
The best online explanation of the Brightsiding concept comes from an original composition and animation called Spread Joy video The composer, Mike Strickland said the idea just came to him.
"I was watching TV news one day thinking, 'There needs to be more positive messages being sent around the world,'" he said. "So I wrote a cheerful song called 'Spread Joy.'" Watch it, take the concept to heart and we can all do our part to Spread Joy throughout the World!
and, so, as a Citizen who happens to be Senior (that means I'll be graduating soon...) I know that wrinkles around the eyes make you look happy. Of course, I cleverly disguise the tiny lines around my eyes with huge wrinkles! Why did I mention the thing about being a senior citizen?....now I feel compelled to ease the worry of you 'youngsters' and reassure you that as you age you will get chin hairs....but...not to worry cuz they give you something to stroke while looking thoughtful, mature and wise! Did that help?

Be Unique...Think Outside The Box...
Here is a post by Seth Waite of ProBlogger..Stop being a blogging Zombie that by giving examples makes the point of being innovative and the importance of thinking outside the box. Notice the number of backlinks he has used.
I try to write like I talk...so, OK, it's sometimes disjointed...pausing (gotta keep my thoughts in order). I love to read and most enjoy a conversational style. Instead of ... 'See Jane run' (in monotone style) how about..."How in the world does Jane do that power walking thing in those skyscraper platform shoes?...look at her go...'. I'm just saying, that's what I enjoy reading.
Outside The Box IS Where It's At...anyway, Stop being a blogging Zombie is worth the read.
How about some more backlinks...another blogger I enjoy because his style of writing is conversational and since he is Tim Brownson, a Real Life Coach from the UK. has good insight.
The current one is Coping With Conflict and Criticism . It is a bit long but informative and the comments are also good. I came away with some new insights...
Well, methinks I need a Life Coach...I'm still fighting off the boxes in my storage of things that want to get listed at my store...Supergrannys Treasures. There's only 137 days till Christmas, WHY am I dragging my feet? StubsInc is already listing new Christmas items as are a bunch of other sellers.
Fleapirates sent me this quip that I've been digesting for a couple of days now..."I would be unstoppable...if I could just get started". What's my problem?...that's my $64,000 question today.
Anywhooo, check out all the sellers at Online Auction

Remember Independance...Ben Franklin
After listening, I became curious about our forefathers so I found USHistory.org Declaration of Independance Signers.
Interesting that the youngest was a mere 26 with the oldest 70.
There are very brief biographies of each...some were not formally educated others were extremely privileged...they all shared a passion for this country.
I'm copying the one of Benjamin Franklin..I'd forgotten what an interesting outstanding man he became from very humble beginnings..I think you will enjoy refreshing your memory.
Benjamin Franklin

Birthplace: Boston, Ma.

Died: April 17, 1790
Benjamin Franklin, born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 17, 1706, may by his life alone be the most profound statement of what an American strives to be.
With no formal education beyond the age of 10 years, Franklin was celebrated throughout Europe, welcomed in any Royal Court, sought out by every prestigious society. Indeed, when the reputations of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had yet to be sorted out, Franklin was worshipped wherever his name was known.
He attended grammar school at age eight, but was put to work at ten. He apprenticed as a printer to his brother James, who printed the New England Courant, at age twelve, and published his first article there, anonymously, in 1721. Young Benjamin was an avid reader, inquisitive and skeptical. Through his satirical articles, he poked fun at the people of Boston and soon wore out his welcome, both with his brother and with the city.
He ran away to New York and then on to Philadelphia at the age of 16, looking for work as a printer. He managed a commission to Europe for the purpose of buying supplies to establish a new printing house in Philadelphia, but found himself abandoned when he stepped off ship.
Through hard work and frugality he bought his fare back to Philadelphia in 1732 and set up shop as a printer. He was appointed clerk of the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1736, and as Postmaster the following year. In 1741 he began publishing Poor Richard's Almanac, a very popular and influential magazine. He was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1751 and served as an agent for Pennsylvania (and ultimately for three other colonies) to England, France, and several other European powers. He was elected to the Continental Congress in 1775, where he played a crucial role in the rebellion against Gr. Britain, including service to Jefferson in editing the Declaration of Independence.
Franklin, who was by this time independently wealthy and retired from publishing, continued to serve an important role in government both local and national. He was the United States first Postmaster General, Minister to the French Court, Treaty agent and signer to the peace with Gr. Britain, Celebrated Member of the Constitutional convention (See Work, above). Benjamin Franklin: Businessman, Writer, Publisher, Scientist, Diplomat, Legislator, and Social activist, was one of the earliest and strongest advocates for the abolition of Slavery, and for the protection of the rights of American aboriginal peoples. He died on the 17th of April in 1790. On that day he was still one of the most celebrated characters in America. So should he always be.
Remember Poor Richards Almanack? First published by Benjamin Franklin in 1732, Poor Richard's Almanack was a guide to both weather forecasts and wise maxims. Franklin used the pseudonym Richard Saunders in writing the text, which soon became an annual publication up until 1757. Response to the almanac was tremendous, and it sold as many as 10,000 issues a year.
Franklin wrote Poor Richard's Almanack as a service to the American people, hoping to educate them and entice their intellectual appetities. Since it was extremely common for the almanac to be the only publication a person ever purchased, the author felt indebted to write as much as he possibly could.
As Richard Saunders, Franklin was given both the freedom to express his thoughts and the freedom to do so with dramatic license. Consequently, he continued to emphasize the two qualities he found most essential to success: industry and frugality.
We need to cherish and protect all the freedoms that we have been given.

Senior Sex Advice...Can't Hurt..Might Help...Dating in the 50's
The Archives of Internal Medicine tells us that drinking a cup of Joe translates into "a higher rate of sexual activity in elderly women and a decreased prevalence of impotency among elderly men." No one knows why. I adore coffee and read just today that some speculate that the brew promotes more liberal behavior. Well, can't hurt...who knows might help?
Shoot, why not have a romantic cup 'o brew tonight before going to bed with your precious...might keep you awake a bit longer. It may be just what you need to get a leg up (so to speak) on the 'situation'. Remember, though, if you encounter an erection lasting four hours or more, contact your Dr, don't blame me.

Oh, did I tell you? According to a recent scientific survey, the less sex you have, the worse your memory becomes.
What?
and then......
I was MUSING the other day about the 'good ole days' of the 50's...the morals, problems of the young people of that day....here's a memory from my sheltered life...
Do you recognize this instrument of torture?

Gals, did you have a mother that would insist on you wearing your best rubber band type girdle (hot, sticky, objects of torture with garters that become imbedded into your thighs) when you went out on a date or to a social event?
Well, mine did and I just thought she wanted me to look nice and have good posture! I just wore one without a word. I was such a good girl!!
Now I know better....
...she didn't give a whit what I looked like...she knew that girdle was impregnable...you certainly couldn't 'spread' anything with that RUBBER BAND around your lower body. Matter of fact, I don't even remember knowing what a condom was....didn't need to know about em...I had to wear a girdle! Rubber girdles didn't come off easily....why...you could figure the first 43.3 minutes after arriving home was dedicated to wresting that wet tool of torture off.....UGH!!Can anybody else remember those 'good ole days'? Got any stories?
Enough reminiscing...just wanted to call your attention to a new IKEA shower curtain that I bought and never used..

Shut the Duck Up!....Mine is named Blanche..

Now this t-shirt I should probably get!
My Duck has been around since I was a teenager...we would have long talks in the shower...or sometimes Blanche would be the alter ego that would pop out and become the funniest thing around...quite gregarious she was. My...we did have lots of fun, Blanche and I.
Other times the miserable Duck would start complaining loudly in my head...your hair is a mess, they're probably talking about you, you look ugly in that outfit, why aren't you pretty...I knew it was Blanche and it took me a few years to realize that this 'miserable Duck' was largely up to no good. I discovered that sometimes you don't want to face up to the Duck, you know she made you feel insecure and bad...so that's when I would have a talk in the shower with the Blanche Duck...talking out loud...just seemed to make it more real...I could hear my own voice. This kind of self talk is effective. You never heard a quiet Duck..talk outloud and listen to how you sound. Aaahhh, those were the days.
I wonder what Blanche is doing these days? Haven't seen her in duckades...she was a real pain but actually turned out to be a good friend. I don't say Shut the Duck Up anymore as an internal voice metaphor but do, on occasion, still say shut the duck up!

Wanna tell me if you have a 'miserable quacking bad tempered duck' on your shoulder?

I am sad and worried...wanna help me pick out a new t-shirt?
No matter how long and treacherous your life's journey may seem.....Remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

On a lighter note, I am a senior citizen that likes t-shirts with sayings on them. I just found some I have not seen before....check them out...ya think any of them would be good for me?
(I think she's cute!)
I hate when that happens
WOW, guess I wouldn't smile either!Hey, gals, we aren't the only ones with pieces and parts heading south

Alright, I'll quit...BTW, you may or may not know I have a large collection of Advertising, Casino, Vintage Ashtrays that I have listed at my store at...Supergrannys Treasures. I have many boxes that are not listed. I frequently visit other sites to check on ashtrays. I have to say ebay is getting some action and the prices are good...many are selling much higher than what I have them listed at on OLA.com. I almost always shop for the best price...but these buyers just see it and bid on it! Guess I could sell them on ebay, but their fee schedule is getting truly gruesome and this ole filly can't afford the fees. If you can find it at OnlineAuction, it is generally a bargain...I know mine are. Take a gander and browse around... Supergrannys Treasures.
Keep a cool head and try not to hemorrhage through your eye sockets when you read or hear the news...
